For as long as Randy Orton and Sheamus have been the top featured talent on the SmackDown brand, and often on Monday Night Raw as well, there have been rumors that WWE would pull the trigger on a feud between the two. Those rumors have been hottest and heaviest over the past year or so, really, and now another report from Bryan Alvarez in the latest edition of the Figure Four Weekly Newsletter states the current plan is for the two to square off at the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) event on Sun., Aug. 18, 2013, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
An excerpt (a subscription is required, but we strongly recommend you getting one if you don't have one already):
The plan at the moment is for Orton vs. Sheamus to be a featured match at SummerSlam. That would indicate one of them is turning soon. Orton hates being a face and there has been talk of him turning for literally almost a year now.
Orton has most definitely made it clear for months now that he despises playing a babyface because, well, he's not very good at it. The best characters in pro wrestling are often a man or a woman simply taking their own personality and turning the volume up to 11.
And Orton's natural personality isn't exactly a beacon of light in an otherwise dark and dreary world.
Still, these rumors were persistent in the build up to WrestleMania just last month and the ultimate payoff for that was the two teaming up with Big Show for a six-man tag team match opposite The Shield, one they lost. But instead of planting seeds of dissension between the two, WWE planted those seeds for a feud between Orton and Show, which is still ongoing.
Actually, the SmackDown spoilers show Orton and Sheamus may be teaming up yet again. That could mean WWE is going to do the same thing and this time actually pull the trigger on it.
