We still don't know the extent of the injury suffered by CM Punk on last week's (March 11, 2013) episode of Monday Night Raw in Indianapolis, but we do know he's definitely working hurt and WWE is worried about him leading into his match against Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 on April 7 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
That's because, according to the Wrestling Observer, Punk has now been pulled from all house shows until the big event.
C.M. Punk is off all house shows until WrestleMania for a variety of reasons including being physically banged up. He didn't appear at the Raw shows Saturday and Sunday but was at the Bridgeport show on Friday, but only did an interview. He was injured, although people are somewhat playing down that it's serious, in the match with Kane on Monday.
"Serious" is the operative word here. Working hurt is a part of the gig with WWE, especially if you're a star the caliber of Punk and you have an upcoming match against Undertaker at WrestleMania.
Risking that at this point simply isn't worth it for his working matches at house shows.
What will be interesting, and will probably tell us more than anything else, is how Punk is booked on Raw leading up to WrestleMania. If he works matches and gets around just fine then we can equate his missing house shows to pro football players missing practice through the week but playing on Sunday. But if he's only in talking segments and doesn't get too physical, that will be all the evidence we need to know he's far more injured than anyone is letting on.
Stay tuned. He'll be at Raw tonight and you can follow along with the show by clicking here.
