The Bella Twins return on Monday Night Raw is due to a concerted effort by WWE to attract back all the Divas that quit the company in the recent past by offering them better contracts than they had previously, instead of bringing up new women from developmental.
Just as it looked like Cody Rhodes had plucked up the courage to ask Kaitlyn out on a date on Monday Night Raw, when in walked his friend Damien Sandow with a surprise for the essence of mustachioed magnificence in the form of two much more suitable companions, The Bella Twins. What a perfect distraction to keep Cody's crush from blossoming into a full scale romance too quickly in what should be a slow burning storyline.
Such a splendid plot twist suggested that their WWE comeback was expected for some time. According to Dave Meltzer on today's subscriber only Wrestling Observer Radio show that was indeed the case, as discussions for their return dated back six or seven weeks.
The decision to entice The Bellas back isn't a shocking one, as the WWE Divas division was decimated by one departure after another over the past year. Not only did the twins quit, but leaving WWE shortly thereafter were Kharma, Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly and Eve Torres too.
It also makes sense on Brie and Nikki's end too, as they only left the company due to burnout and it allows them to spend more time with their boyfriends, Daniel Bryan and John Cena, respectively.
Apparently the Bellas weren't the only former Divas that WWE have made advances towards to return to the company. Meltzer claimed that WWE is making a concerted effort to attract back into the fold all the Divas that quit the company in the recent past by offering them better contracts than they had previously, instead of bringing up fresh blood from developmental. Talks are ongoing with the others, but none of them are close to re-signing with WWE.
That's quite the vote of no confidence in the women in NXT, but almost all of those there with the requisite looks aren't good enough workers yet to be brought up to the main roster. The Anti-Diva Paige, who has gained a cult following at Full Sail University, is ready, but lacks the swimsuit model physique that WWE management wants from their femme fatales.
What do you think, Cagesiders? Are WWE overlooking the younger female talent that are right under their noses? Or would you be happier to see more established names like The Bella Twins have another run in the promotion?
