United States Championship Match:
Antonio Cesaro (c) vs. The Miz
United States Champion Antonio Cesaro will put his title on the line once again against The Miz.
The Road to Elimination Chamber
Antonio Cesaro defeated Santino Marella at SummerSlam (Aug. 19) -- just four short months after his debut -- to win his first United States Championship. Cesaro has spent the past 182 days dominating the midcard, successfully defending the title against Marella, Zack Ryder, Justin Gabriel, R-Truth, and The Great Khali.
Following Cesaro's title defense against Khali on the Jan. 2 episode of Main Event, The Miz decided that he has had enough of US Champion's anti-American comments. The two began feuding, leading to a match on the Royal Rumble (Jan. 27) Pre-Show. Cesaro would retain, but the animosity between these two was not over.
Miz would be the special guest referee during Cesaro's match against Randy Orton on the Jan. 28 episode of Monday Night Raw. "The Awesome One" distracted the US Champion long enough for Orton to pick up the victory, and laid Cesaro out with a Skull Crushing Finale.
Cesaro would get his revenge a few weeks later on the Feb. 8 episode of SmackDown when he interrupted Miz's match with Cody Rhodes and repeatedly smashed him into the barrier.
What's at stake?
Antonio Cesaro is looking to be one of the greatest United States Champions in recent memory. He has the strength, intelligence, ring awareness, and overall ability to reign over the WWE midcard for as long as he chooses. Another victory over The Miz will continue his path to greatness. However, a loss would be a huge blow for the young talent.
The Miz has gone from "The Most Must See WWE Champion" to "The Most Unseen WWE Midcarder" in a very short time. If he hopes to ever see a WrestleMania main event again, he needs to get back on track. A win against Cesaro would be a step in the right direction. Failure to do so would simply drop him further away from glory.
