John Cena won the Royal Rumble match last night (Sun., Jan. 27, 2013) at the pay-per-view (PPV) of the same name at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona, and set up the main event of WrestleMania 29, a rematch against The Rock for the WWE championship.
After his win, WWE.com caught up with him for his first promo leading up to that match and it gives a glimpse of what we can expect over the next couple months:
"In recent weeks, especially through 2012, a lot of people, since WrestleMania 28, have said that I'm just not myself. Maybe too much is on my mind, maybe I'm dwelling on the result of WrestleMania 28 every single day I wake up. Seeing that moment as once in a lifetime and that I wouldn't make it back. Tonight, with an edict of 29 other superstars putting a target on yours truly, yes, maybe Fruity Pebbles are lucky charms because I've managed to win the thing twice, and you've gotta be lucky to stick around. But you also have to have resolve, toughness, and drive, and know what's on the line, especially when it came down to me, Sheamus, and Ryback. Each one of those guys deserves to be in the dance at WrestleMania. But we know the rules of the Rumble: One person goes, and at that moment, each one of us thought we were going to go. At that moment, luck's out the window. At that moment, you find out who the best is, who deserves to be in the middle of the ring in the biggest dance in the history of the company. The people who watched the Rumble, the people who follow me on Twitter @JohnCena, the people who know what I stand for, I'm not talking to them. This is a direct message to all my critics: Take notice. Mark your calendar. Whoop ass season starts today."
