WWE SmackDown returns to SyFy this coming Friday night (Aug. 16, 2013) from San Jose, California, but the show was taped, as usual, on Tuesday night. That means full spoilers are readily available if you're the impatient type who doesn't want to wait a couple days for the payoff.
Unwrap that present early:
- The Wyatt Family kick off the show so Bray can cut a promo from his rocking chair. This time, however, the chair is in the middle of the ring, which sounds awesome. Kane attacks, of course, but ends up falling to THAT DAMN NUMBERS GAME.
- Christian def. Damien Sandow with a roll up. This is a rather interesting booking, considering Rhodes lost to Alberto Del Rio on Main Event. Speaking of the heavyweight champion, he tried to take out Christian but ended up getting laid out with the Killswitch. That makes it sound like he'll retain at SummerSlam.
- AJ Lee & Layla def. Kaitlyn & Natalya in a nothing Divas match. Remember when Layla turned heel to join AJ? Are they ever going to make something of that? Side note: AJ continues to use the Shining Wizard.
- RVD, Big Show & Mark Henry def. The Shield in a six man tag match with Dean Ambrose taking the pin after getting hit with the WMD then the Five-Star Frog Splash. No word on any announcement of a Show & Henry vs. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns tag title match at SummerSlam, by the way.
- The Miz def. Jack Swagger proving that he does actually still wrestle for the company instead of doing anything else under the sun they could find for him.
- Curtis Axel def. Zack Ryder in a glorified squash match before Paul Heyman cut a promo. Nothing big on this episode in regards to the CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar match at SummerSlam.
- In a main event that may have been foreshadowing Sunday's headliner, Daniel Bryan def. Wade Barrett in an overbooked mess of a match. Vince McMahon shows up to disrupt the finish, as Bryan had Barrett ready to tap to the Yes! Lock before Vince took out the referee. This led to his calling Brad Maddox down to do his bidding after Barrett hit Bryan with the Bull Hammer. Bryan kicked out, though, and Triple H made his way down to count the pinfall for Bryan after he hit a diving headbutt. To top it all off, Randy Orton hit the ramp once again to stare down Bryan and loom large with his Money in the Bank briefcase.
That's the show, Cagesiders. Your thoughts?
