Batista spent 87 seconds on the Elimination Chamber go home edition of Raw

WWE.com

Easiest work night ever.

When Batista negotiated with Triple H to make his return to WWE after a little less than four years away, he got himself a two-year contract with the understanding that he would work a full time schedule with special considerations made for his need to promote his film work, like the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy blockbuster.

He also may or may not have been promised a Royal Rumble victory (that already happened) and a WWE world heavyweight title win (that might happen at WrestleMania 30).

It's just too bad his return has been so poorly received.

Booking hasn't helped. He's currently treading water in a feud with Alberto Del Rio, whom he will have a match with at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view (PPV) on Sun., Feb. 23, 2014, at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In fact, during last night's episode of Monday Night Raw, the go home show to the big event this weekend, Batista spent all of 87 seconds on television hyping his match this weekend. He had one line, telling Randy Orton, "The way it looks to me you're not the face of the WWE, you're the ass."

He stole that joke from Daniel Bryan, by the way.

Then, he pushed Del Rio and walked away. Here it is, in all its glory:

This comes just one week after Big Dave completely destroyed Del Rio after "ADR" defeated Dolph Ziggler. The beat down was so thorough, in fact, it left many wondering what the point is of having a match between the two in the first place.

Any hope of salvaging it went out the window when WWE devoted just 87 seconds to it on last night's Raw.

One could argue none of this will matter because Batista is earmarked for a title shot at WrestleMania 30 on April 6 in New Orleans. But wouldn't one want to keep him as strong as possible until then?

Is that what's happening here? I'll let you decide, Cagesiders.
