He's back. The one and only Undertaker made it official tonight (March 4, 2013) when he returned to WWE on Monday Night Raw at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York, to confirm he will indeed be wrestling a match at WrestleMania 29 on April 7, 2013, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
And his return was genius.
Instead of wasting time with all the hoopla and teasing fans throughout the night, WWE got straight to the point and had the GONG hit before the show ever even had its opening sequence.
"The Deadman" then walked out in his usual cloud of smoke, each step more measured than the last. But he never made it to the ring, instead halting for the perfect camera angle to frame the Titantron behind him. Then, he raised his arms and the WrestleMania 29 logo appeared behind him.
That's all the confirmation we need.
To really drive it home, CM Punk was the first man out once the opening sequence did play and Undertaker cleared out. He came out and said he felt he had no purpose at WrestleMania this year because he should be the main event at the biggest show of the year but the fans took it from him. So he's going to take from them.
"I'm going to beat the Undertaker at WrestleMania."
He would go on to reference his WWE championship streak in comparison to Undertaker's WrestleMania streak. It was the perfect note to strike to set up the feud that will lead to one of the most hotly anticipated matches in a long time.
Then, Randy Orton, Big Show, and Sheamus came out to say they felt they deserved the shot, setting up a Fatal Four-Way match for later in the evening. If Punk loses, it will be the shock of the century.
It should be noted, though, that last week's episode of SmackDown featured Orton, Show, and Sheamus getting attacked by The Shield, who have done work for Punk and Paul Heyman in the past.
We'll update this post once that match goes final.
