The Rock may not have actually appeared on the show but his presence of late has definitely helped earn WWE exposure, leading to a strong rating for this past weeks episode of Monday Night Raw.
There may be backstage resentment towards The Rock for a number of issues, perhaps even the fact that he might be a walking Wellness exemption, but if he so chooses, he can simply say "scoreboard" and direct any and all with ill will towards the ratings for Monday Night Raw this past week.
Two weeks ago, for the show after the Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) featuring Rock coming back as WWE champion, Raw averaged over five million viewers. He even took a minute to boast about this on his Twitter:
The People's Era - highest #RAW ratings in over a year. @wwe Universe's powerful voice. #WeBringIt twitter.com/TheRock/status…
— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) February 6, 2013
Then, he took a week off, not appearing on this past Monday night's episode. Despite that, the show drew a 3.5 rating for an average of 4.81 million viewers. Here's the hourly breakdown:
Hour one: 4.86 million viewers
Hour two: 4.85 million viewers
Hour three: 4.71 million viewers
That's a slight drop but only a very minor one and this would be a show Rock can also point to and say he helped gain exposure for so many. And this time he wasn't there to take anyone's "spot."
Brock Lesnar deserves plenty of credit too, surely, as his return in the main event last week no doubt led to buzz over how WWE would follow up with him this week. They didn't disappoint either, having him absolutely destroy the most widely hated babyface on the roster, The Miz.
All in all, the company is hitting on all cylinders right now. Enjoy it.
