CM Punk, who is notorious for is snarky attitude towards fans or media or dirtsheets or anyone else claiming he's burnt out -- or even looks that way -- has finally admitted that, well, he's burnt out.
This is as close as we're going to get to "The Straight Edge Superstar" outright telling us he's fighting burnout ahead of his WrestleMania 29 match tonight (Sun., April 7, 2013) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, against Undertaker (from an interview with the Busted Open Radio Show on Sirius 92):
"I think I have a real problem with admitting if I'm burnt out or anything like that. That's just based off my work ethic. I don't ever admit when I'm hurt and I don't think a lot of the great guys have, because the show is going to go on. Obviously I'm miles away from where I was in the indies where if I didn't work I didn't eat and it's not a fact that I'm worried about losing my spot or anything like that. This is just all I know; just go, go, go. That's just me. I put so much pressure on myself so I think that it all kind of stems from that. Am I burnt out? Probably. It's difficult for me to even say that, maybe, maybe I am."
Of course he's burnt out. Not only did he go on a run of 434 consecutive days as WWE champion, he was injured throughout various points in that run and never missed any time, even working through a knee injury that eventually required surgery late in the reign.
He still came limping out on Monday Night Raw, crutches and all.
Now, he's about to work a match he's gone on record as saying he never really wanted after working a feud he was never really crazy about while still battling a few nagging injuries.
There have been persistent rumors that he's taking some time off after the show tonight and if that is indeed the case, he's earned it.
