A couple weeks back, Diamond Dallas Page appeared on Nancy Grace's program on HLN to discuss the death of Ultimate Warrior. Because Warrior was an admitted steroid abuser, Grace, a sensationalist if there ever was one, took the most sensationalist angle possible and used careful wording to exploit the story while demanding answers about steroid abuse in pro wrestling from DDP, who was shaken by the direction of the segment.
He later released a statement saying he was blindsided and unaware that this is how the show would be presented.
His initial statement was a classy, professional response to a blatant troll who was fishing for ratings. His follow up, however, is almost as bad as the original troll job.
From the above video interview with Sam Roberts:
"That was pissing me off so bad that I won't even talk about that cunt. It was just wrong and I mean I'm really not going to talk about that fucking cunt anymore because I'm just not."
When Roberts remarks that he could tell Grace caught him off guard, DDP said:
"Sort of like you right now, bitch."
In fairness, he does laugh right after that line and say "here is a whole different world".
Still, this is a bad look.
It's not out of line to be upset at Grace for the way she handled herself. She presented her program in the most malicious way possible and sensationalized Warrior's death to get ratings for a struggling television show. She cupped her mouth and let out a howl in the hopes people would pay attention to her piercing screams.
She trolled, and it worked.
The best response to that is to see it for what it is and ignore it. A bad response is to play into it. The worst response is to sink to that same level.
