If you're a WWE legend, it's apparently all the rage to crap all over TNA, the widely regarded number two pro wrestling company in the industry, at least here in the United States. Bret Hart was the first to fire a few shots, taking aim at Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, but now Jake Roberts is joining the party to pop off at the promotion's President, Dixie Carter.
From a recent interview with Busted Open Radio on Sirius XM 92:
"(Vince McMahon's) machine is unbeatable. I mean, don't kid yourself, TNA, you'll always be third stream; there is no second stream. You'll be third at least because there is no way in hell you're gonna catch these people, and you might as well forget about it and quit telling the people you are. ... You got people in the wrong positions, you got people that shouldn't be in those positions. And Dixie Carter, for whatever she is, I think she's a mark! And for whatever Hogan is, Hogan's not a booker! Christ, I mean, thank god they got rid of the jerk, the one that destroyed WCW. What was his name? RUSSO! He'll probably go in the goddamn Hall of Fame before I do."
One could definitely argue that Carter is a money mark who has been taken advantage of by the very best of swindlers like Hogan and Bischoff. Or one could simply say it's her money and she can do what she likes with it, even if that means pissing it away to pay a broken down old man to turn Impact Wrestling into his own personal vanity show on most weeks.
Third stream indeed.
Then again, TNA is making moves on pay-per-view (PPV) this year, finally branching out of Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, and garnering around 1.3 million viewers every week on Spike TV.
Money mark or not, that's not too bad at all.
