As it usually does, TNA has released footage from its latest pay-per-view (PPV) event, Lockdown, which emanated from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, this past Sunday night (March 10, 2013) and featured Bully Ray turning heel and revealing himself as President of Aces and 8s before winning the heavyweight championship from Jeff Hardy.
"Hulk, I used you. Brooke, I screwed you. I am the President of the Aces and 8s and I am the TNA world heavyweight champion."
The Aces and 8s angle may have been dead in the water for weeks now, getting little to no heat thanks to the group being composed of far too many WWE castoffs with little credibility, but props are in order for this storyline playing out the way it has. In hindsight, Ray was always going to turn heel and reveal himself to be the leader, and the promotion spent an absurd amount of time getting there.
That's what made it effective once it finally happened.
Sometimes it's nice when a story just makes sense, even if you're having a hard time getting on board with most of the characters within said story. It's also nice to see Bully finally win a heavyweight championship after all his years of faithful service, but more importantly, his past couple years of being one of the best members of the TNA roster.
He deserves this for the work he's done.
Now let's just hope this doesn't lead to Hulk Hogan coming out of retirement for one more match where he wins the belt back for TNA at Bound for Glory.
Oh dear god ...
