WWE No Way Out 2012: Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio set for June 17 in New Jersey

Photo via WWE.com.

During last night's (Fri., May 25, 2012) episode of Smackdown, Alberto Del Rio won a triple threat match against Kane and Randy Orton to determine the number one contender to the world heavyweight championship.

Because of that, Del Rio vs. Sheamus has been booked for the WWE No Way Out pay-per-view (PPV) event scheduled for Sun., June 17, 2012, at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

This isn't the fist time these two have been booked for a singles match at a PPV show. In fact, they were originally set to do their thing at Over the Limit just this past Sunday night in North Carolina before the match was changed to a Fatal Four-Way involving Randy Orton and Chris Jericho.

It's entirely possible we could be headed for something similar here.

That's because the manner in which Del Rio earned his victory, by stealing it from Orton, left the door wide open to get "The Viper" in for a triple threat match. This would seem even more likely now that Jericho has been suspended for 30 days thanks to his denigrating a national flag in Brazil during a house show. Those two were headed for a feud and now Orton doesn't have anything to do.

Stay tuned.

After the jump, get a look at the updated No Way Out 2012 match card and line up.

Chris Jericho suspension reduced to 30 days for Brazilian flag incident

Photo

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has now amended its suspension of Chris Jericho from "indefinitely" to 30 days. This according to an update on WWE.com that was posted earlier today.

As you should know by now (what with all the coverage of it we've had), Jericho made the mistake of trying to get heat on himself at a house show in Sao Paulo, Brazil, by grabbing a Brazilian flag from CM Punk and crumpling it up before kicking it out of the ring.

This led to local law enforcement stopping the match and telling Jericho he needed to apologize or face incarceration. Denigrating the national flag is a crime in Brazil, a fact Jericho obviously did not know.

WWE was quick to distance itself from the situation, saying no one in the company knew Jericho would do such a thing nor would they ever approve of it. In response to outrage from those in Brazil, a market the company is hoping to break into starting with this, its first show there, WWE quickly apologized and suspended Jericho.

If the suspension sticks for all 30 days starting from May 24 when the incident took place, Jericho would miss the No Way Out pay-per-view (PPV) scheduled for June 17 in New Jersey.

WWE names top 25 masters of the microphone

Both Stone Cold Steve Austin (left) and Mr. McMahon (right) made the list. But where? Photo via WWE.com.

Yes, we're going to beat these lists to death.

Really, we here at Cageside Seats are just marks for countdown style lists. I know we've said as much before but it's worth repeating again seeing as we run so many thanks to the fine folks at WWE.com coming up with something new and interesting seemingly every day.

The latest countdown is a top 25 list of the greatest masters of the microphone.

The art of an effective promo is something every great superstar must learn and master before they can ever truly transcend their spot within pro wrestling. Indeed, when you think of the all time greats, almost all of them were exceedingly good on the stick.

Men like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock could all captivate audiences with nothing but a live mic. But where do they rank on the list?

Let's find out:

Video: Raw footage of Chris Jericho Brazilian flag incident caught on camera

Word broke early this morning Chris Jericho was suspended indefinitely by WWE for an incident at a house show in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

During a match with CM Punk, Jericho held up the Brazilian national flag before balling it up and tossing it to the mat. He then kicked the flagged which led to authorities threatening to arrest the WWE Superstar if he didn't apologize.

He did, both in person and in print, but was still reprimanded by WWE.

Thanks to iAmSammoMedia, footage of Jericho's actions towards the flag and his subsequent apology have now hit the monsterweb.

Chris Jericho comments on WWE suspension for Brazil flag incident

Photo

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar Chris Jericho was suspended indefinitely last night (Thurs., May 24, 2012) due to an incident involving a Brazilian flag during his match against CM Punk at a house show in Sao Paulo.

As the story goes, Punk was waving a flag around and in an effort to get some heat on himself (which worked wonders by all reports), Jericho took it from him, crumpled it up and kicked it out of the ring. Because denigrating the national flag is a crime in Brazil, officials reportedly stopped the match and gave Jericho an ultimatum -- either apologize to all the fans in attendance or spend the night in the clink.

He smartly chose the former.

But though he may have avoided punishment from local law enforcement in Brazil, he wasn't so lucky with his employers. In an update to its story on his suspension, Jericho gave the following comments:

"I made a bad judgment call in the course of entertaining [WWE] fans in Brazil. I apologized to the people in the crowd for showing disrespect. It was a bad move. I did it with [our] fans' entertainment in mind and I'll accept the consequences for that."

There's no telling how far exactly WWE will go with this punishment, considering Jericho is a top level star. As stated previously, however, he already had his exit strategy planned, the time frame for which is just a month or two away. Will this suspension speed up the process?

Stay tuned.

Chris Jericho suspended by WWE for denigrating Brazilian flag at house show in Sao Paulo

Photo

In the latest instance of "when playing the heel goes too far," World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has suspended Chris Jericho for denigrating a flag during a house show just last night (Thurs., May 24, 2012) in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

From WWE.com:

Chris Jericho has been suspended indefinitely due to an irresponsible act of denigrating the Brazilian flag at a WWE live event in São Paulo on May 24. WWE has apologized to the citizens and the government of Brazil for this incident.

The promotion didn't provide any details into exactly what it is that took place, which seems odd, but the bloodhounds at TMZ were on the case and they revealed exactly what it is that Jericho did to get everyone all up in a fuss.

It all went down during a match between Jericho and C.M. Punk -- who was proudly waving the flag in the ring. Jericho took the flag away, crumpled it up and kicked the flag out of the ring ... and that's when police stepped in and put a stop to the event.

We're told Jericho was informed that desecrating the national flag is a crime in Brazil ... punishable by incarceration.

Cops gave Jericho an option -- apologize to the arena ... or go to jail. Chris chose the former ... grabbing the mic and telling the crowd he immediately regretted his actions. Cops allowed the event to continue.

TMZ also stated that WWE told them they did not plan nor approve Jericho doing such a thing, which explains why they felt the need to quickly suspend him and release it on the website.

For his part, Jericho tweeted: "Just for the record I love Brazil and wish we could've spent more time here. Beautiful country!"

Our friend Arda Ocal quickly noted that the last time something similar to this happened was when Dave Finlay authorized The Miz to interrupt the national anthem at a house show, something that upset the United States Army National Guard, a WWE sponsor, enough to lead to Finlay's release from the company.

It was believed by many that Finlay would return once the heat from the incident died down but that hasn't happened. This isn't to say Jericho will face a similar fate but with his plans already in place to leave WWE by SummerSlam in order to tour with Fozzy, it's not out of line to think they'll give him a quicker than expected push out the door.

UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson continues talking about WWE run and calling out Brock Lesnar

This guy in WWE?

Now that Muhammed Lawal has signed a contract to fight under the Bellator Fighting Championships banner and wrestle under the Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling umbrella at the same time, it was only a matter of time before more and more mixed martial artists started talking about doing the same.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight Roy Nelson has been talking about doing both for some time now, though the conversation naturally came up once again now that he's got a fight coming up this Sat., May 26, 2012, at UFC 146 against Dave Herman.

Here's what he told MMAWeekly.com when asked about "King Mo" doing both:

"I'm actually ecstatic. It couldn't have happened to a better man. I think it opens a lot of doors for a lot of different fighters, and it actually opens up a lot of fighter's eyes that there's other ways to make a living, that you can actually do both sports. It's like it's okay to be a Deion Sanders playing football and baseball, or like a Bo Jackson playing football and baseball. It's good that athletes can do that."

He would go on to say that if he beats Herman this weekend, he might ditch UFC altogether in favor of coming over to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to call out Brock Lesnar, who also recently made the jump back to his old stomping grounds.

He's got a built in "Big Country" gimmick, so it could work. Maybe. I'm not sure there's a place for an Earthquake/Typhoon type of character in today's WWE but if Brodus Clay can become successful as a dancing dinosaur, why not Roy Nelson?

Even Evan Bourne is feeding into the idea, as he tweeted Nelson that he's "welcome in our squared circle anytime. 'Big Country' could be quite a force in WWE."

Does anyone want to see Nelson in WWE? Anyone at all? Cagesiders?

Report: Former WWE writer spills secrets on John Cena heel turn, Chris Jericho return, Sheamus Royal Rumble win and more

Photo via WWE.com.

Well, this is fascinating ... if it's true.

That's the big problem in the pro wrestling business; you just never know when you're being worked or if something is legitimate. Such is the case with this little bit of news that is floating around.

Over at Scott's Blog of Doom, Scott Keith was contacted by someone who was apparently cruising the threads on a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) board at GameFaqs.com. A poster there is claiming to have worked as an assistant for the WWE writing team late last year and because of that, he's got a ton of valuable insights into behind-the-scenes goings on.

Allegedly.

Again, there's no way to verify if this information is correct, so take it with the usual grain of salt. The person who contacted Keith did say that the board this was posted on is generally inaccessible to most in an effort to avoid trolls. So this could be legit.

After the jump, read a bullet point breakdown of what was revealed.
