Antonio Inoki to promote another pro wrestling show in North Korea

Earlier today, it was announced that WWE Hall Of Famer and current Japanese politician, Antonio Inoki, would be promoting another state-sanctioned pro wrestling show in North Korea in late August under the theme of independence, peace and friendship. In late April 1995, Inoki, who then ran New Japan Pro Wrestling, held two shows in Pyongyang that both drew in excess of 150,000 fans, the two largest crowds in pro wrestling history, largely because the vast majority of people were practically ordered to attend. This move may get Inoki in trouble with the Japanese government again, as he was suspended from their parliament for 30 days in November last year when he made an unauthorised trip to the country. Although relations between the two countries have recently been slowly improving, there is still a lot of work left to be done, as Japan still seeks an agreeable final resolution on the issue of the abduction of several of their citizens by North Korea from 1977-1983.

Antonio Inoki wins political office again

2
Antonio_inoki_da_img_0401_20121224_jpg

Japanese wrestling legend, MMA figurehead and WWE Hall of Famer Antonio Inoki was elected to the Upper House of Councilors for a second time last Sunday when the country's national elections took place. Despite running for the new nutty right wing Japanese Restoration party that had been damaged by founder Toru Hashimoto calling comfort women a necessary evil during World War II, Inoki's celebrity was enough to get himself 249,637 votes and comfortably win a seat in the Japanese Parliament. Which is pretty astonishing given that his first run as a politician from 1989-1995 was marred by scandals and his speeches were hard to take seriously. I suppose there's still hope for Linda McMahon yet, who is 6 years younger than elder statesman Inoki.

Current IWGP Tag Team Champions, K.E.S. (Killer Elite Squad): Lance Archer (aka Lance Hoyt) & Davey Boy Smith Jr. (aka David Hart Smith) added the NWA World Tag Team titles to their collection of belts last night when they defeated Ryan Genesis & Scott Summers in Houston, TX. They are the biggest name tag team to hold the belts in the six years since TNA severed their business relationship with the NWA in May 2007. So the NWA vs. New Japan Pro Wrestling feud is certainly to the former organisation's benefit, even though the score is now 1-1.
