Cageside Radio 3/29/10 w/ Bill Hanstock On Wrestlemania Weekend
I'm joined by Bill "SundownMotel" Hanstock to talk Wrestlemania weekend, as he was at both ROH shows, the Total Extreme Comedy show headlined by Mick Foley & Colt Cabana, and Wrestlemania itself, which I caught on PPV. Plenty of discussion of the big matches.
(Note: I know that my end sounds a little more distorted than it usually does on my podcasts, it came from a problem that I caught and it won't happen again)
WWE Wrestlemania 26 Live Blog w/ Full Results: The Undertaker retires Shawn Michaels in a great match, John Cena wins the WWE Title from Batista in a very good one, Edge comes up empty against Chris Jericho, and Bret Hart destroys Vince McMahon
Now that the show is over, we'll start with the quick & dirty results:
- Yoshi Tatsu won a 26 man battle royal in the dark match
- WWE Unified Tag Team Champions ShoMiz (The Big Show & The Miz) defeated R-Truth & John Morrison to retain their titles when Show pinned Morrison
- Randy Orton defeated Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes in a triple threat match when he pinned DiBiase
- Jack Swagger won the Money In The Bank ladder match
- Triple H defeated Sheamus
- Rey Mysterio defeated CM Punk, so Mysterio does not have to join the Straight Edge Society
- Bret Hart defeated Vince McMahon in a no holds barred match (Vince made it a lumberjack match, claimed to have paid off Bret's family, and brought out the Hart Dynasty and all of Bret's surviving siblings as the lumberjacks. Bret revealed that they told him and agreed so Vince would pay them in advance.)
- World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho defeated Edge to retain his title (After the match, Edge speared Jericho off the announcers' tables through the barricade)
- Alicia Fox, Vickie Guerrero, Michelle McCool, Layla, & Maryse defeated Beth Phoenix, Eve Torres, Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly, & Mickie James when Guerrero pinned Kelly
- John Cena defeated WWE Champion Batista by submission with the STF to win the title
- The Undertaker defeated Shawn Michaels after a jumping tombstone piledriver to retire him
After Bill "SundownMotel" Hanstock gets back to his hotel, we will may recording a Cageside Radio podcast with our thoughts on the show, which depending on the timing, will go up either late tonight or tomorrow morning. If the we can't do the show tonight, we will try to get one done by tomorrow afternoon. Either way, keep your eye out for Bill's posts about attending both ROH shows, the Total Extreme Comedy show with Mick Foley & Colt Cabana, and the big event itself, Wrestlemania 26, in addition to other post-show coverage and Cox's Monday Night Raw report.
After the jump is a much more detailed description of the show that was posted live as it happened.
Last Wrestlemania Update Before The Show? Partial Hall of Fame Acceptance Speeches Now on WWE.com, Full Transcript of Bob Uecker's Speech, Women's Match and Pre-Show Battle Royal Added To Wrestlemania 26 Card
In the Hall of Fame area of WWE.com, they've posted edited versions of every acceptance speech from last night's ceremony, in addition to photos of the event. The clips are pretty short, and they haven't posted the presenters' induction speeches in any form (with Roddy Piper, Stan Hansen, Dick "The Destroyer" Beyer, and Pat Patterson doing some of those speeches, as well as the emotional element of Stu Hart being inducted by his grandchildren and Ted DiBiase Sr. being inducted by his sons, they sound like they're worth watching), but with no live stream this year, they're better than having nothing until the Wrestlemania 26 DVD set comes out
Of the clips on the site, the best are the speeches from Bret Hart (accepting for his late father Stu while flanked by all of his surviving siblings), Wendi Richter (appearing for the company for the first time in 25 years), who was clearly thrilled and honored to be inducted, and Antonio Inoki, because he got the whole building to yell "ICHI! NI! SAN! DAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" with him. On top of all that, The Milwaukee Journal-Setinel's Brewers Blog has posted a full transcript of Uecker's acceptance speech.
Meanwhile, according to the official Wrestlemania 26 program, a 10 woman tag match featuring who you'd expect after this past week's TV shows: Alicia Fox, Vickie Guerrero, Michelle McCool, Layla, & Maryse vs Beth Phoenix, Eve Torres, Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly, & the returning Mickie James. It had seemed like they were building to this match so it's pretty strange that they didn't just announce it on Smackdown. There will also be a dark match battle royal not long before the PPV goes on the air. It's WWE's way of getting those who didn't make the main card a Wrestlemania match and payoff. They're not showing it on WWE.com as they have at times in the past, but we hope to have the result when we start live blogging the show tonight at 7 PM Eastern Time.

Great Minds Think Alike: SBN's Jon Bois echoes some of Larry Miller's thoughts on why wrestling is awesome
Over on the main site of our fine network here at SBNation, weekend editor Jon Bois has chimed in with a column about the awesomeness of wrestling, similar to the one that by actor/comedian Larry Miller that we posted earlier in the week. In addition to plugging our live blog coverage of the show tonight (7 PM Easten sharp, folks! Don't ya dare miss it! Oh, and thanks Jon!), he offers up a pretty good outsider's look at wrestling, plus the hardcore fan's view from FanHouse's Brandon Stroud:
What do I love about wrestling? I love that it combines violence with theater performance. I love that it brings to life and amplifies the building blocks of human emotion in the most confusing way imaginable. There is beauty in simplicity, and even more beauty in complexity made simple. If you want me to be honest, I like bright colors and loud noises. It allows me to be smart and stupid at the same time. It is an exercise for the brain. It is memories of childhood carried into adult life. It is characters from the world of fiction who are living, constantly acting people you can meet and interact with, or even wrestle if you wanted. You can't read The Bluest Eye, then drive somewhere and meet Soaphead Church. But I have a picture of me shaking hands with Bruno Sammartino. I can't meet Ted Levine and expect him to act like Buffalo Bill. But I can meet Rey Mysterio, and he'll still be wearing his mask.
Wrestling is fun. It doesn't need to be real to be fun. It never has. Santa Claus is a hell of a lot of fun, too, if you don't have somebody standing beside the line at the mall nudging kids and going "hey, you know this ain't the REAL Santa Claus, right." And then that guy goes off to whatever the MMA equivalent of Santa Claus is. Strikeforce, maybe.

Dragon Gate, ladies and gentlemen.)

Quick 2010 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony report: Bob Uecker, Gorgeous George, and Ted DiBiase Inductions Shown On USA Special
What aired on USA from the ceremony was pretty uneventful, especially with the surprising omission of Stu Hart's induction and Bret Hart's speech. The Bob Uecker induction was actually the highlight of the show, as Dick Ebersol did a really good job presenting to his long time friend and talking about how he got to do Wrestlemania 3, plus Uecker himself was sharp and funny as expected. His speech was going along well until the most ridiculously obvious edit in WWE history took him to the end. Dick Beyer's speech before presenting the plaque to the former Betty Wagner was removed completely, as was the speech by Ted DiBiase Jr. & Brett DiBiase given before inducting their father. Betty was out led by a WWE staffer who asked her a few short questions. What aired of DiBiase's speech was fine, but nothing special. Going by the video recap of the other inductions and the report from the spyware-containing wrestling website that shall not be named, the rest of the ceremony looks a lot more interesting, with the speeches from Bret, Beyer, Stan Hansen (inducting Antonio Inoki), and Pat Patterson along with Mad Dog Vachon, plus Inoki getting the entire audience to do the "1, 2, 3, DAAAAAAAA!" chant looked like one of the best HOF ceremony moments ever. Inoki's speech itself also sounds...interesting, to say the least, since he talked about wanting to co-promote with WWE to put on a wrestling show in Antarctica(!) to raise awareness of global warming.

With tonight's WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (airing in part on the USA Network tonight at 11 PM ET, it will be released in full on DVD as part of the Wrestlemania DVD set, but unlike recent years, there will be no WWE.com stream for what's not shown on USA, so those not in attendance will have to wait awhile unless some videos shot by fan pop up) having one of the more interesting classes in recent years, it seems like a good idea to take this opportunity to post some of their greatest moments.
