Crazy stunts weren't always a part of professional wrestling. Once upon a time, it was two guys rolling around the mat for our amusement and entertainment. Every once in a while, something like a steel chair or a set of brass knuckles would find its way in. And if a feud between two guys or groups had to be absolutely settled, they'd usually do it in a steel cage or something that had some sort of finality to it.
But the 1990s saw new and violent and innovative ways to dish out punishment on the opposition, with much of that influence coming from the northeastern independent known as Extreme Championship Wrestling. Naturally, things escalated, and while we're desensitized by what is considered "extreme" today, every once in a while, we do get extreme moment that wows us.
And in the spirit of Extreme Rules coming this weekend, this week's Cageside Countdown is...
MOST EXTREME MOMENTS EVER.
And once again, you'll decide what is #1. But there is a structure to this and we're gonna follow it, damnit.
First an important rule: any moment that directly led to a career-ending injury or death will be disqualified from the countdown.
Now that we gotten that out of the way, the rest of the rules. To nominate, write in the subject box Nominate- (your moment here). Then in the comment box, post either a video link to that moment, a photo link to that moment, or a photo of that moment (preferably video or photo link so the thread doesn't get clogged up for the slower connections).
For example, to nominate the infamous Danbury Fall, I would write Nominate- The Original Danbury Fall in the subect box, then in the comment box, I would post a direct link like so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-7YY5sixbI or like so.
Now here's the real fun of the countdown: see a moment you like? Give it a rec, because that's how the top ten will be made. (CTRL+F or Command-F is your friend, so use that to make sure you don't nominate something that's nominated already.)
Nominations and recs will close three days from date and time of post, with the countdown to be posted this Friday.
