Slapstick Saturday presents: The Clay after tomorrow

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

What does it take to be a special guest referee? A black-and-white striped shirt, apparently. Oh, and the ability to count to three. Looks to me like Green Bay Packers star Clay Matthews meets that criteria.

Don't look now, but that's Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews doing a run-in on WWE Smackdown.

Fresh off his SuperBowl win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, everyone's favorite "Fathead" was a special guest referee back on Feb. 11, 2011, to help decide the World Heavyweight Championship main event between Edge and Dolph Ziggler.

He was a last-minute replacement due to injury.

The original referee, Vickie Guerrero, tried to influence the outcome by taking advantage of a dazed and confused Edge, setting him up for his own finisher. Unfortunately, even with thighs like hers, she was unable to do anything but blow out her ankle, rendering her useless.

Have no fear, Matthews is here.

Two belts, two spears. Poor Ziggy. At least he can look back at this and laugh now that he's wearing the gold. But it's interesting to wonder where he might have fit into the equation had Edge never retired.

Any guesses?
