Dolph Ziggler was given yet another shot at the Intercontinental championship, this one against The Miz at tonight’s (Sun., Sept. 11, 2016) WWE Backlash pay-per-view (PPV) at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia. This came about because they built a match between Miz and Daniel Bryan but the latter obviously can’t wrestle.
Before the match, Miz was shown talking to Bryan backstage saying he wants to renegotiate his contract. When Bryan stayed quiet, Miz said it would only get harder after he beat Ziggler.
They opened the match with a nod to the CM Punk fight last night, with Miz rushing in before getting taken down and put in a rear-naked choke. They went a lot longer than Punk did after, though.
They went back-and-forth in a long but very good match that saw Maryse cheat with some sort of spray to Ziggler’s eyes leading to the Skull Crushing Finale and the pinfall victory for the champ.
And still.
