I wrote a script for next Monday's WWE Raw (Extreme Rules Go Home Show)

WWE.com

Like a lot of you (I assume), I often watch Monday Night Raw. Some of it's great, some average, some not so great, and like the rest of the 'smarks' out there (I don't think I actually am a smark, but anyway) I often ponder if I could do better. Everyone who incessantly bitches about wrestling thinks they could do better, right? I largely enjoy it and rarely complain, but it can, as anything can, suck sometimes.

I've taken the time to study how wrestling shows are put together, looked at general structures and formulas, i.e. how many matches, how many segments, backstage interviews, in ring promos, etc. and how they're ordered.

My philosophy for what makes a great wrestling television show is really very simple. You're always building to something right? To the next PPV, whatever it might be. So everything should mean something, everything should be building to something, nothing should be meaningless, or 'just there' (like the never ending Golden Truth segments. Seriously just get it over with and team on Superstars and Main Event already, nobody cares). Everything should be used to build to a logical conclusion, where it can.

With the recent influx of new talent, Shane-O-Mac, and the constantly mentioned 'new era', Raw has certainly improved since Mania. But even so, I often think elements could be done better, people could be used better etc.

Now, I haven't tried to reinvent the wheel, I've written it to follow all previous episodes, and to be the final build toward Extreme Rules. I've written it as i'd imagine an actual WWE writer would, I've included all the 'new era' mentions, all the usual formulas they've been following recently, so it doesn't look out of place or too radically different. It's supposed to fit in with the overall style of their current programming, not detract from it.

Two things to note:

1. I've had to fill in the rest of the Extreme Rules card, there should be at least two more matches announced. I have completely guessed and assumed that Enzo Amore may hopefully make his return in the build to Extreme Rules. He very well may not, who knows, but I've taken some artistic license and booked his return on this episode. The matches I've chosen for Extreme Rules are ones I'm using the episode to build towards.

2. Since I wrote this, I've come across an actual leaked Raw script online, my script does not remotely follow the style of this script, I've written it in my own way.

Without further ado, here it is:

EXTREME RULES CARD:

1p. Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Sin Cara vs. Zack Ryder vs. Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio (6-Man Over The Rope Battle Royal to determine the Number 1 Contender for the U.S. Title)

2p. Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch vs. Emma & Dana Brooke

3. Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho (Steel Cage Match)

4. Charlotte vs. Natayla (Submission Match for the WWE Women’s Title, Ric Flair banned from ringside)

5. Kalisto vs. Rusev (U.S. Title Match)

6. Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady vs. The Dudley Boyz (Tables Match)

7. The New Day vs. The Vaudevillains (WWE Tag Team Title Match)

8. The Miz vs. Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens (Fatal 4 Way Match for the WWE Intercontinental Title)

9. Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles (Extreme Rules Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Title)

WWE RAW EXTREME RULES GO HOME SHOW SCRIPT

THEN. NOW. FOREVER.

The Raw intro plays and the pyro goes off. Michael Cole, JBL and Bryon Saxton welcome us to Raw. They announce Roman Reigns vs. Luke Gallows for tonight, and in the main event, it will be AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens.

Sami Zayn’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring as Lillian does the introductions. Zayn will be in action to kick off Raw and his opponent will be … The Celtic Warrior, Sheamus.

SEGMENT 1: SAMI ZAYN vs. SHEAMUS

Result: Zayn wins via Pinfall

Specifics: After a decent back and forth match, Zayn ducks the Brogue Kick and rolls up Sheamus for the upset victory.

SEGMENT 2: BACKSTAGE

Sheamus is walking backstage when he bumps into Del Rio. Sheamus asks Del Rio what he wants. Del Rio chastises Sheamus for losing to Zayn, and that if the League was still together; maybe he wouldn’t have lost at all. He says the loss goes to show how much Sheamus needed the League.

Sheamus reminds Del Rio that the League only existed in the first place because Sheamus became the WWE WHC at Survivor Series and took Seth Rollins’ place as the face of the Authority. Accordingly, he needed back up, and Del Rio was just available at the time. Sheamus says speaking of the League; it’s ridiculous that Rusev will face Kalisto for the U.S. Title at Extreme Rules, yet Sheamus, a former WWE WHC, doesn’t even have a match at the PPV. He says he deserves to face Kalisto for the U.S. title, not Rusev.

Del Rio retorts that he has beaten Kalisto for the U.S. title before, and he too is a former WWE WHC, so it should be him in the match.

Sheamus suggests maybe they should go see Shane and Stephanie, and see who they think should face Kalisto at Extreme Rules.

SEGMENT 3: RUSEV with Lana vs. TITUS O’NEIL

Result: Rusev wins via Submission

Specifics: Rusev dominates O’Neil and eventually slaps in the Accolade for the win. After the match, he won’t let go of the hold. Kalisto runs down and attacks Rusev but Rusev gets the better of him and slaps him in the Accolade. Sin Cara comes down and attacks Rusev, who at first gets the better of Cara, but Kalisto rallies and the Lucha Dragons double team Rusev and toss him out of the ring. Rusev powders.

SEGMENT 4: BACKSTAGE

Shane and Stephanie are in their office discussing what just took place. Sheamus and Del Rio show up. Sheamus says it’s ridiculous that he and Del Rio aren’t facing Kalisto for the U.S. title at Extreme Rules as they’re former WWE Champions, unlike Rusev.

Shane points out that Rusev won the Battle Royal and they both lost, so Rusev is the rightful number one contender. Sheamus says he should at least be added to the match. Del Rio says he should be added to the match instead because Sheamus lost tonight. They squabble.

Baron Corbin walks in and mocks Sheamus and Del Rio. He says no one cares about them or what they’re doing now. He says he doesn’t care about the old era, or the new era, all he cares about is the Baron Corbin era, and seen as he beat Dolph Ziggler last week, he should be the one to get a shot at the U.S. title.

Dolph Ziggler walks in and says everyone is just demanding opportunities these days, but in the new era, that’s now how things work, and everyone must earn their opportunities. He points out that although Corbin beat him last week, he beat Corbin at Payback, so they’re even. Dolph says he wants an opportunity.

Zack Ryder walks in. He says he had the biggest moment of his career at WrestleMania when he won the IC title and it was taken from him by The Miz and Maryse’s cheating ways. He says he got an opportunity last week for the IC title against Kevin Owens, but he came up short. He says that won’t stop him because he’s faced obstacles his entire career and always overcome them eventually. He says the new era is about giving opportunities to the people the WWE Universe want to see get those opportunities, and he’s proven that the WWE Universe want Zack Ryder to get one.

Sin Cara walks in. He says Rusev is nothing but a brute and a thug and does not fight with honour. He says he and Kalisto have always talked about one day having the honour of wrestling each other. He says the WWE Universe wants to see that match, and therefore he should get an opportunity for the U.S. title.

They all squabble.

Shane interrupts and says they all epitomize the new landscape of the WWE, old era guys, new era guys and opportunity. He says Rusev is the rightful number one contender for the U.S. title and they have to accept that. But that doesn’t stop him from creating an opportunity for the next contender for the U.S. title after Rusev vs. Kalisto. He makes Corbin vs. Ryder vs. Ziggler vs. Del Rio vs. Sin Cara vs. Sheamus in an over the top rope battle royal for Extreme Rules to determine the number one contender for the U.S. title.

Sheamus gets angry and says he, and he alone should have the opportunity. He tries to appeal to Stephanie, pointing out that he was the WWE WHC and worked for the Authority. Stephanie agrees with Shane and tells Sheamus he’ll have to accept it. She also makes Baron Corbin and Del Rio vs. Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler in a tag team match for later tonight.

SEGMENT 5: DANA BROOKE with Emma vs. BECKY LYNCH

Result: Lynch wins via DQ

Specifics: Lynch has Dana in the Disarmer when Emma runs in and attacks Lynch causing the DQ. Emma and Dana double team Lynch when Sasha Banks’ music hits. She hits the ring and takes out Dana and Emma, Lynch rallies and they clear the ring to stand tall.

SEGMENT 6: BACKSTAGE

Emma and Dana are complaining to Shane about the attack from Lynch and Banks. Shane points out that Emma and Dana attacked Lynch last week on Raw, again on Smackdown, and again tonight, so they probably had it coming.

Lynch and Banks walk in and agree with Shane. Banks reminds Emma that she attempted a main roster run in the past and failed, so was sent down to NXT. She says if it wasn’t for Banks and Lynch, Women’s Wrestling would still be an afterthought, and Emma and Dana would never have got near the main roster without them paving the way for the new era of Women’s Wrestling. They squabble.

Shane interrupts. He agrees with Sasha that the profile of Women’s Wrestling has been raised and the new era is all about continuing the renaissance, so at Extreme Rules, it’s going to be Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch vs. Dana Brooke and Emma.

Charlotte walks in with Ric Flair. Charlotte chastises Shane for banning Ric from ringside last week. She says the new era of Women’s Wrestling is indeed here, but it’s only because of her, the WWE Women’s Champion.

Shane points out that he was vindicated in his decision to ban Ric last week as Charlotte lost to Paige because she couldn’t use her cheating ways, and that Charlotte needs to learn to win without him, as a true Champion should. He makes Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte for tonight, and Ric is once again banned from ringside. Charlotte and Ric lose it and they all squabble.

SEGMENT 7: ALBERTO DEL RIO & BARON CORBIN vs. ZACK RYDER & DOLPH ZIGGLER (Start of hour 2)

Result: Baron Corbin and Alberto Del Rio win via Pinfall

Specifics: Baron Corbin pins Zack Ryder following the End of Days. Following the match, Ryder and Ziggler rally and the four go at it. Sheamus and Sin Cara both run down and all six brawl. Ryder, Ziggler and Sin Cara clear the ring and the babyfaces stand tall.

SEGMENT 8: BACKSTAGE INTERVIEW (COLIN CASSADY)

Renee Young is standing by with Big Cass. She says Enzo Amore’s injury at WWE Payback was a tragic conclusion to the match, but since then Big Cass has continued to make a name for himself. She asks him how he feels about the main event match not taking place last week, and what his plans are for tonight.

Before he can speak, The Dudley Boyz appear.

Bubba says at Payback, Enzo had it coming. Enzo is nothing more than a disrespectful, motormouth little punk. He says Big Cass is trying to make a name for himself on his own, but it won’t work, because he’s nothing without his little crippled friend Enzo. As for The Dudley Boyz, they proved they’re the greatest tag team in WWE history last week when they beat the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions, The New Day. He says that makes them the number one contenders for the titles, but they’ll get to that after Extreme Rules. He says if Big Cass thinks he’s so tough, he should face both the Dudleyz in a handicap match tonight.

Cass says if they want to talk trash about Enzo, he’ll happily kick both their asses tonight. He says while Enzo is a formidable tag team partner, Cass is 7 foot tall, and you can’t teach that. He says tonight, he’ll show the world that there’s only one word to describe the Dudleyz.

Bubba and D-Von suddenly attack Cass and lay a vicious beat down in the backstage area. They walk off talking trash, leaving Big Cass laid out.

SEGMENT 9: THE MIZ vs. CESARO (NON TITLE)

Result: Cesaro wins via Submission

Specifics: Cesaro has Miz in the crossface when Maryse gets on the apron to distract the referee with Miz tapping. Cesaro walks over and jaws with Maryse. She slaps him, he plays it like he’ll do something, but Miz runs up behind him, Cesaro moves and Miz knocks Maryse off the apron. Cesaro with the Giant Swing into the Sharpshooter for the tap out.

SEGMENT 10: IN RING PROMO

Back from the break and Chris Jericho is in the ring. He says on Raw last week, Dean Ambrose made a huge mistake when he destroyed his $15,000 jacket. He says he made him pay for it on Smackdown when he beat him down and put him in a strait jacket. He says he did that because Ambrose is a lunatic, and there’s only one place for a lunatic; the asylum. But not The Ambrose Asylum, The Jericho Asylum. He says on Smackdown he taught Ambrose a lesson in respect, which is you don’t mess with the Best in the World at what I do. He does his ‘Drink it in’ routine.

Ambrose suddenly hits the ring out of nowhere and brawls with Jericho; Ambrose dominates Jericho and goes for Dirty Deeds, but Jericho escapes and powders. An enraged Ambrose picks up the mic. He says Jericho wants to teach a lesson in respect, but he doesn’t respect Jericho and he never will. He calls Jericho an egomaniacal, pompous ass that dresses like a lame dad trying to be cool to impress teenage girls. He says this isn’t about talk shows or plants or jackets anymore. He says Jericho talks about there being no Ambrose Asylum, that there’s only the Jericho Asylum. He says Jericho should put his pompous claims to the test and face Ambrose in a Steel Cage match at Extreme Rules. He says at Extreme Rules, he’ll teach Jericho a lesson that he’ll never forget, inside ‘The Ambrose Asylum’.

SEGMENT 11: IN RING PROMO

The Vaudevillain’s music hits and they make their way to the ring.

They say that there is a new era in WWE, but they represent a bygone era where men were men and champions were respected. They say The New Day refer to themselves as ‘your boys’, but The Vaudevillains are real men. They say The New Day have held the WWE Tag Team Titles since Summerslam, and forced the WWE Universe to live in a world of fake cereal, tracksuits, body gyrations and ridiculous rhyming catchphrases. They say at Extreme Rules, they will free the WWE Universe from the childish prison The New Day has entrapped them in. They say The New Day era will be over, and the bygone era will reign supreme.

OHHHHHHHHHH VAUDEVILLAINS!!!!

The New Day come out to the stage. They point fun at the way the Vaudevillains dress, present themselves, the black and white entrance etc. They say that since they became the ‘WWE World Tag Team Champions’ at Summerslam, they’ve beaten every team put in front of them, and at Extreme Rules, ‘The Vaude-Bootys’ will learn that New Day rocks.

SEGMENT 12: COLIN CASSADY vs. THE DUDLEY BOYZ

Result: Colin Cassady wins via DQ

Specifics: Big Cass has D-Von lined up for the East River Crossing when Bubba attacks him with a low blow from behind, causing the DQ. The Dudleyz bring tables into the ring. Enzo’s music hits and he rushes the ring. Enzo and Cass clear the ring of the Dudleyz. Afterward, Enzo gets on the mic, does his shtick and says The Dudley Boyz are nothing but Duds, and if they wanna mess with Enzo and Big Cass and bring tables into the mix, they should face Enzo and Cass at Extreme Rules in a tables match. Big Cass says there’s only one word to describe them, S-A-W-F-T, Sawft.

SEGMENT 13: CHARLOTTE vs. SASHA BANKS (Ric Flair banned from ringside, Natayla on commentary, start of hour 3)

Result: Sasha Banks wins via Submission

Specifics: Charlotte hits the Natural Selection and goes for the pin with her feet on the ropes when Natayla jumps up and pushes her feet off the ropes. Natayla and Charlotte get into it and Sasha hits the backstabber into the Banks Statement from behind for the win.

SEGMENT 14: BACKSTAGE

AJ is in the locker room with Anderson and Gallows. Reigns and the Usos walk in. Reigns tells The Club that last week, they brought chairs into the mix causing the DQ. He says Anderson and Gallows knew AJ couldn’t beat Roman so they had to save him. He says it’s good AJ finally decided to get extreme last week, even if he failed, because at Extreme Rules, he’ll need to bring the extreme to have any chance of beating him and winning the WWE WHC.

AJ says he can’t wait to get extreme with Roman at Extreme Rules. He says he’s tired of holding back and taking the high road, and he’ll do whatever it takes to become WWE WHC. He says Roman doesn’t need to worry about AJ tonight; he needs to worry about Gallows. Reigns says he’ll beat Gallows tonight, and beat AJ at Extreme Rules, because he’s the Guy, but more importantly, he’s the Champ.

SEGMENT 15: ROMAN REIGNS VS. LUKE GALLOWS with Karl Anderson

Result: Reigns wins via Pinfall

Specifics: Reigns hits the Superman Punch on Gallows and sets up for the Spear. Anderson gets on the apron to distract the ref. Reigns hits a Superman Punch on Anderson, and hits the Spear on Gallows for the win. As Reigns is celebrating, Styles’ music hits and he makes his way to the ring for the main event. Styles and Reigns stare down in the ring (Anderson and Gallows on the outside).

Back from the break and we see Reigns, Gallows and Anderson being lead away by officials during the break.

Kevin Owens makes his entrance.

SEGMENT 16: AJ STYLES vs. KEVIN OWENS (Main Event)

Result: AJ Styles wins via Pinfall

Specifics: After an excellent 20-minute match, Owens goes for the Pop-Up Powerbomb but Styles jumps over Owens, lands the Pele Kick and hits the Phenomenal Forearm for the win.

Roman Reigns hits the ring and starts beating down on Styles. Gallows and Anderson hit the ring and double-team Reigns; The Usos arrive to even things up. All hell breaks loose.

Usos and Gallows/Anderson brawl to the outside. Reigns hits the Superman Punch on Styles and sets up for the Spear, but he stops. He leaves the ring and grabs a chair, and re-enters. He has Styles dead to rights, goes for a chair shot to the head, Styles ducks and hits a Pele Kick into the chair, into Reign’s face.

Styles staggers up and hits the Styles Clash on Roman, onto the steel chair. During this, Gallows and Anderson took out the Usos on the outside. Gallows grabs the WWE WHC title belt and tosses it to Styles.

Styles stands over Reigns and hoists the title in the air as Gallows and Anderson stand behind him.

Raw goes off the air.
