When John Cena first tried his hand at movies, it was as an action star in WWE Studios productions like The Marine and 12 Rounds. Not surprising, considering that’s how most wrestlers try to land in Hollywood. Also not surprising, his film career ended up in more of a Steve Austin place than a Dwayne Johnson one after those flicks.
His resurgence has come as a comedy player. Trainwreck, Sisters, the forthcoming The Pact, even his gig this weekend hosting Saturday Night Live... jokin’ John has been where it’s at for the entertainment industry.
But earlier today, Cena unveiled the trailer for an upcoming Amazon Studios production he’s starring in alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson of Kick-Ass, Godzilla and Avengers: Age of Ultron fame, directed by The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow’s Doug Liman.
And it doesn’t look like the champ is throwing in the towel on action drama just yet.
Here’s the official synopsis from the press release:
A deadly psychological thriller that follows two soldiers pinned down by an Iraqi sniper, with nothing but a crumbling wall between them. Their fight becomes as much a battle of will and wits as it is of lethally accurate marksmanship.
What do you think, Cagesiders? Will Cena prove to be a versatile Hollywood star?
If so, he’ll be even more in demand for movies... and less available to WWE.
