It is the dream of most every wrestler who plies his or her craft to be recognized as a world champion. When a wrestler reaches that goal, that means the promotion has put their full confidence in him or her to carry it. Or at least represent it until the next guy is ready.
But while being a world champion is a dream for just about everyone, it's also often a burden, and truthfully, it's a burden not everyone can carry. Whether it's due to awful booking, circumstances outside of their control (like injury), or the simple fact that they just plain suck, there have been many more bad world champions in the wrestling business than good ones.
But who is the worst world champion ever?
We're leaving that decision to you, the Cagesiders of the world. But we will have structure to this.
- First, we're restricting the countdown to world champions only. So US champion David Flair, Intercontinental champion Chyna, cruiserweight champions Oklahoma and Hornswoggle, and tag team champions Kenzo Suzuki and Rene Dupree can rest easy.
- And only major world champions here, so basically the big three in the States (WWE, WCW, and ECW), the big three in Japan (New Japan, All Japan, and Pro Wrestling Noah), ROH, TNA, and NWA. And NXT. And AAA in Mexico. Basically, anyone who's held the top belt in any of those companies is eligible.
- Oh, and we're not restricting this to just the guys. Women's world champions are eligible too. So women's, divas, and knockouts champions are fair game.
- If your nomination can pass the smell test, write in the subject box (that's the skinny one) Nominate - your worst champion here. In the comment box (that's the bigger one), write why you think he or she is the worst champion ever. Defend your pick. It may make the difference between making the countdown and missing the cut.
- See something you agree with? Give it a rec; that's how the countdown is made.
- To avoid multiple nominations of the same person, use CTRL-F or CMD-F to make sure your nomination hasn't already been used. Only the first nomination's recs will count.
Nominations close two days from date and time of post, with the countdown going up this weekend.
