The Dead Man had just survived a brutal loss to Brock Lesnar in the main event of Hell in a Cell. The fans at Los Angeles' Staples Center were chanting "Thank You, Taker", as the future Hall of Famer struggled to his feet, selling the effects of the match, but also tipping his cap to the fans.
The the familiar static-y interuption of The Wyatt Family hit.
Fresh off a loss of his own to Roman Reigns in the same structure, Bray Wyatt brought all three members of his crew to the ring, apparently looking to avenge his loss at this year's WrestleMania to Undertaker. No one came to make a save, and The Phenom didn't have much fight left in him. While JBL & Michael Cole bemoaned their vile actions, Braun Strowman, Luke Harper & Erick Rowan helped their patriarch decimate Taker.
And then they carried him out on their shoulders.
Presumably, this is a set-up for a Survivor Series match next month. All night, WWE was hyping an appearance by Taker there on the 25th Anniversary of his debut. Could he work with his brother Kane, similarly taken out by Wyatt a couple of years back, and maybe Reigns & Dean Ambrose, in a four-on-four showdown?
Maybe a long set-up for Wyatt getting a rematch in Texas next April, or even the rumored Strowman match?
Hopefully they'll start telling us tomorrow night on Raw.
Thoughts on this Cagesiders? Do you like the serialized storytelling of pay-per-views (PPVs) these days, or should they have faded to black tonight on a celebration of the legendary Undertaker?
