WWE SmackDown returns to SyFy this coming Friday night (Aug. 22, 2014) from Phoenix, Arizona but the show was taped, as usual, on Tuesday night. That means full spoilers are readily available if you're the impatient type who doesn't want to wait a couple days for the payoff.
Unwrap that present early:
- Randy Orton cut a promo continuing his issue with Roman Reigns. Something about how Reigns won a battle but the war continues and he'll win that. He also promised to beat Rob Van Dam later in the night.
- Seth Rollins def. Jack Swagger via count out after hitting a Curb Stomp on the outside so Swagger couldn't answer the 10 count. Of note, Zeb Colter is still out selling injury. After this happened, Bo Dallas once again ran out to run down Swagger, saying he's going to take his spot as "America's sweetheart".
- Corporate Kane is still running the show and they ran another backstage spot like last week setting up a match between The Miz and Roman Reigns in the main event. Two weeks in a row with it is interesting.
- Rusev def. Sin Cara in a squash match. Mark Henry came out but Lana called Rusev off.
- RVD was getting interviewed by Renee Young when Orton attacked him. They had a brief match but it was really just about getting Orton over considering they were both counted out with Randy just beating the shit out of him before Van Dam had to be helped to the back.
- Roman Reigns actually was interviewed by Renee Young and he vowed to go after Seth Rollins for what he did to Dean Ambrose at Raw. That's intriguing.
- Natalya def. Paige with the Sharpshooter in yet another non-title match with yet another distraction finish. This time, AJ Lee came out and took the Divas championship but Paige ran after her to get it. She barely beat a 10 count back to the ring but ran right into the Sharpshooter and tapped to it while AJ taunted her. This is baffling booking.
- Goldust & Stardust def. The Wyatt Family, who couldn't buy a win at this point. Still, they did a post-match beat down angle and the heels stood tall.
- Roman Reigns def. The Miz in a quick match that went all of three minutes. After, Orton attacked and there was a brawl between the two, one Reigns got the better of to stand tall to close the show.
That's the show, folks. Your thoughts?
