TNA 7/24/14 - Why...?

Why? The Question that Doesn't Die

I don't understand you TNA. We've gotten closer over the last year, but we're still having these growing pains, and I don't understand why. You finally shed some of those cankerous vestiges of times foregone, and you've made me truly happy. But the July 24 TV tapings left me befuddled.

When I really enjoy TNA, I probably enjoy it more than I do WWE, simply because the former still catches me off guard with its edge and great matches. I have to say that I enjoy this increased in-ring presence that they're emphasizing. I only hope that it sticks past the NYC tapings.

Just focus on the great things you've been doing recently. Put on the blinders, stay the course, and don't give a second thought to anything not named Galloway.

These are just my reactions to a few of the segments, as recaps for all of them can be found elsewhere (spoilers follow).

Low Ki vs DJ Z tho

Them moves tho. Low Ki's movements and prowess in the ring bring shock and awe. The dude's like a little ball of energy wrapped up in pure intensity. I'm not going to call him the greatest thing since sliced bread, but seeing his art in the ring made me gasp.

Gail Kim vs Taryn Terrell

TNA continues to show us why the Knockouts are the best big-time women in the business - NXT divas have the talent but not the experience nor recognition. I was a bit surprised that Gail and Taryn would have their epic tiebreaker at a common TV taping, so when the Beautiful People interrupted, I was relieved. I'd like a rematch at Destination X, but I feel like Kim/Terrell vs The Beautiful People will come first.

Aries and Option C

TNA's decisions have been sketchy in recent memory to say the least. Currently, I'm wondering why they're even wasting time hinting that Aries won't trade in his X-Division championship. I know that if I had the championship, you're darn tooting that I would not trade in against a monster like Lashley. But this is Austin Aries, self-proclaimed "Greatest Man that Ever Lived." Of course he's going to trade in, right? Barring that Element-X also known as a "Russo Swerve," we can all assume that he'll cash in. If that were to happen, that brings about other questions, like why they wouldn't push one of their best and most capable performers.

Jersey Dude vs The Gingerbread Muta

So the Great "Mooda" enters the ring, seemingly without a real reason, since his only purpose was for Robert E tho to challenge him. Of course, even at his age and deservedly so, Muta easily dispatched of the tanned and unplanned Jersey broman. I haven't seen Asian Mist in a while, so this segment was a real treat.

It's weird to me that Sanada would turn against Muta, but I get it. His mentor put a lot of pressure on him, and Storm is just helping to free him from it.

Now I'm just wondering what Sanada and Storm will do together from now on. I'm going to call them Team Tsunami just for the heck of it. Does their partnership eventually lead to a tag match against Gunner and Anderson?

Team 3D and Tommy Dreamer vs ECIII, Rockstar Spud, and Rhino

When Dixie said that people would remember "those letters," I assumed that she meant just the "EC" that Borash got to say before being stared down by Generic Throwback no. 2. I'm not sure why the team of Tenaz didn't assume that she meant Ethan Carter, but whatever.

It was nice seeing Snitsky back to abort a baby and "Big Zeke" still with that lack of personality. It's my understanding that Snitsky was back for just one night and that Ezekiel is staying until further notice. Is Ezekiel just filler while Lashley does C-league MMA? If they wanted a beefy African-American guy to wrestle badly and no-sell, [There was a joke here that was deemed inappropriate, so I'm removing it].

I don't have a problem with either of these guys, but it just doesn't make sense to me that Dixie would care about hiring either of them. And outside of the story, I don't see what they truly have to offer. I don't know anyone that would really be enthused to see Ezekiel or Snitsky in matches.
