The One-Woman-Per-Stable Problem

Nikki Bella has a problem. She may be getting beat up regularly to keep the heat on Stephanie McMahon and her long-running feud with Brie Bella, but if and when Brie comes back, you know that the conclusion doesn't involve Nikki.

There's only one thing keeping Nikki from being a key-player in a hot feud: there are no other women in The Authority. Led by Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, with Randy Orton, Kane, and Seth Rollins being their main lapdogs, there is only one woman to properly feud with. At the moment, the honour belongs to Brie to feud with Steph.

There have been plenty of Diva tag teams, sure. The Funkadactyls and The Bellas have been the most notable over the last few years, but without a Divas division tag team belt there can only be so much hype these matches can draw. Plus, the success of The Authority is because of how well-established those involved are, which can't be said for many in the Divas divison, and also because it's male-led, meaning it gets more screentime.

Like it or not, the dominant heels in the WWE right now are The Authority. Feuding with them got Daniel Bryan over. It's getting Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns over as singles competitors while establishing Seth Rollins as a singles heel. Everyone popped hard for Brie's slap at Payback. The fans want people to feud with the big bad bosses and their lackeys.

We saw from that slap, which got one of the biggest pops of the night at the PPV, that the fans don't care for the gender of those involved in what's happening so long as it's good, and my God is this one good. Who doesn't want to see Brie and Stephanie beat the crap out of each other? But given the one-woman-only stable, Brie is the only one who is going to benefit from this.

A Bella Twins vs Stephanie match isn't exciting. Realistically, Stephanie would lose immediately due to it being 2-on-1. Nikki hasn't had enough interaction with Stephanie for the fans to want Nikki vs Stephanie the way we want a match with Brie. If only The Authority had another woman to feud with.

While the trio of AJ/Dolph/Big E was never a dominant stable, nor was it a team that were on equal footing with each other at the time, the same problem could have happened. If they were dominant heels, only one woman could believably get involved because they could only target AJ. And she had the belt at the time, meaning the one Diva involved in that storyline would likely also be the one going for the belt, leaving the rest of the female roster with not a lot to do.

Lana may be busy with Rusev right now, but she would be an asset to The Authority. We know her promo skills are pretty decent, and she's a good heat magnet. Putting her in the dominant heel faction would give more Divas the chance to be involved in the main storylines. Ideally, that would give a few Divas something to do, while others feud for the belt, with maybe one other Divas storyline happening elsewhere (something better than the awful Fandango stuff).

It's 2014, and the championing of people like Paige and AJ is real progress for an industry like the WWE. Hopefully we see Emma get a chance to shine too, as everyone who saw her NXT Arrival match with Paige knows she can deliver. But there's no reason why the female roster can't get more involved with the storylines. Brie Bella is more over than she's ever been, and that's no coincidence. Having more than one woman in factions would give the roster more chances to shine, to connect with the audience, and be taken much more seriously.
