The Case For An Interim WWE World Heavyweight Title

Instagram.com/WWE

I was thinking about this Daniel Bryan injury and what to do about it. Should they let him hold it or should they strip him of it? It is, of course, a work, but WWE could take a look at what its shoot brethern in MMA and boxing do. When a champion is out but you know he will come back later, they create "interim" titles in order for organizations to have a champion to market to headline shows while the actual champ gets better. Plus, it always leads to a big money champion vs. champion match.

We know that, more than likely, Bryan will be back at SummerSlam. What better way to deal with his absence then to give someone else a chance to be champion, see how they do, and go from there. For the last few years I've always sort of looked at the Big Gold Belt as something akin - though not exactly - to this concept. Whoever was holding it was the secondary champion, almost a test to see if how ready for the final step that wrestler may be.

My idea: up the ante on the John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt Last Man Standing match and put the interim title on the line ... and then have Wyatt win the match. Cena has shown in the past a willingness to put younger talent over clean for titles and Wyatt has certainly earned everything he can get from this feud. Bryan and Wyatt have a built in issue from the winter and Wyatt is the last man to have pinned Bryan clean (at Royal Rumble) in an outstanding match.

Let them headline SummerSlam and see how that works.
