The Streak Comes to an End: An Anaylsis

So The Undertaker is now 21-1 while Brock Lesnar now stands as the only person to ever defeat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. The first thing I want to come out and say is that The Streak still stands. Every Streak comes to an end but that does not mean that The Streak coming before the loss becomes meaningless. Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak still stands, Cal Ripken's 2,632 game streak still stands, and Undertaker's 21-0 Streak still stands. He may have lost last night to the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar, but that is how all streaks come to an end.

The ending of the streak is the biggest question on most fan's minds as the night came to an end. Fans were left wondering why now? Why Lesnar? The main reason that comes to mind is that this is it for Undertaker. The Undertaker turned 49 on March 24, 2014, an age by which most other wrestlers have been long retired. He has gone above and beyond the call of duty in the wrestling industry throughout his career. He has deserved to cement his legacy in anyway he wants. He may be retiring tomorrow night on Raw, or he may not. But it is hard to imagine he will continue after this loss to Brock Lesnar.

In 2010 the rumor mill began going crazy when fans first saw the confrontation between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker at UFC 121. This encounter can now be fully explained as it was reported earlier that The Undertaker offered up "The Streak" to Brock Lesnar in 2010. The match between the two last night seems to have brought that story full circle. We may never know if this was The Undertaker's personal pick, but he was more than okay with it in the past.

The Undertaker has been with the WWE for longer than most superstars ever are. He was there before the Attitude Era, during it, and after. He is as Old School as the current roster gets. With his Old School moniker comes the idea that he will "go out on his back". Losing to Lesnar could have been his way of saying goodbye while putting over an already established Superstar.

What's interesting to note is that The Undertaker reportedly asked to work Wrestlemania with none other than Daniel Bryan. What makes this so interesting is that to some this could have now been the best thing to happen to Daniel Bryan. While he did end the night standing tall in the main event holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, going over on The Undertaker could have been even better.

All in all Wrestlemania 30 was one to remember. From start to finish it had instant memories scattered throughout and no matter what the detractors may have to say, every moment will be remembered especially The Undertaker v.s. Brock Lesnar.
