Wrestling or Sports Entertainment, when you get down to the basics is about relationships, either between wrestlers, wrestlers and fans, the company and fans or the company and wrestlers. In this "Reality Era" these dramas are played out on our screens and across the internet, in homes and locker rooms alike. Pure wrestling performed by competent or talented athletes is a beautiful thing Benoit and Regal comes to mind. However it is the drama that plays out inside and out the ring that often grabs us, moments like Macho Man reuniting with Elizabeth, Austin and McMahon or Punk and Jericho. These dramas involve 2 sides of a coin, dark and light if you will, when the Rockers exploded it was Shawn Michaels putting Jannetty through a window that signaled the end, one side of the relationship went down a dark path setting up the inevitable face and heel turn. Today with forums and news sites the fan base is dialed in more than ever to what their favorite stars relationships with others is, and in most cases..we are not happy. We always seem to have an opinion on who should be teaming up with who, who should be feuding with who and why, take Santino and Emma as a great example of where we think WWE is getting it wrong. So with this article I'm going to take a look at one relationship that has been teasing at a breakup for some time and boy are we conflicted on it.

The Shield have been one of the most impressive and over stables in a long looong time, consisting of 3 highly talented stars with very different skill sets and personalities, they have a great look, strong personalities and different strengths which compliment each other well. We have the talker, the brawler and the muscle, in the ring you know that Rollins is going to do some nice flashy moves, Ambrose is going to barnstorm the opponents and Reigns will clean house. Yet one of these stars is not like the others. Reigns more than the other 2 seems to have a better report with the fans and the eye of management, leading to the talk of when is he going to go solo. That Reigns has the look of a main event-er is undeniable with a brutal power move set that could easily go toe to toe with a Lesnar or a Batista. But we have a very good thing going on with the shield and no one likes the idea of them breaking up or the obvious Ambrose and Rollins turn on Reigns angle that would set this up. I propose a different way.

RAW Cold Open

Ambrose- He's getting too big, you know what we need to do Seth.

Rollins – I never thought it would come to this but you're right, it needs to end.

Oh no here we go they are going to do it the shield are breaking up, if you are going to do something you need to play on what people assume you are going to do. Later on the same show the shields music plays and out comes Ambrose and Rollins alone...huh where's Reigns?

The boys hit the ring and pic up mics.

Seth -When we started the shield we stood for something, we were the hounds of justice, we fought against all that was wrong in WWE.

Dean -But something has been rotten in the state of Denmark for a while now and we are here to address one of the biggest injustices in the WWE...Roman Reigns get your ass the the ring NOW.

SHIELD MUSIC and Reigns hits the ramp looking confused, he makes his way to the ring

Dean- We've been a team for a while now, more than a team we were friends who always had each others back.

Seth – For a while now we've noticed, you seem to be bigger than the shield. They (pointing to the crowd ) think you're bigger than the shield and I'm damn sure that HHH thinks you're bigger than the Shield. Well we have had ENOUGH.

Dean- You don't think we've noticed you spearing the Game or taking on all comers while we fight outside the ring? How many times do we have to hold people up so you can powebomb them to the mat? It's time for this to end.

Reigns starts to get fired up.

Seth- Hang on Roman, were not here to fight, were here to tell you it's time, we're the SHIELD and we will always have each others back and sometimes that means telling a friend he needs to walk a different path and in your case that needs to be alone.

Dean – You know were right buddy.

Reigns looks lost for words. Ambrose sticks out a fist, followed by Rollins, reluctantly Reigns puts his fist in.

Reigns – We will always be the shield...(punching a fist to his chest) here.

Ambrose – Now why don't we give these people what they want?

Dean – I'm ready

Reigns – let's do it.

Reigns signals for the bell, and a 3 way brawl breaks out. It goes back and forth with each man getting the upper hand but in the end Rollins and Ambrose are left groggy in the middle of the ring, Reigns is in the corner, he tosses his hair back, let's out a scream and charges....oh god, but as he reaches them he stops and embraces them ...the SHIELD stand tall as 3 man team for the last time as the camera fades out.

Why you ask , have i just written a multi paragraph fan service. Let's look at the ramifications for a second.

Reigns goes on a solo run he deserves.

The Shield carries on and are still over with the fans, Ambrose and Rollins can carry on what they are doing and get even more over without Reigns being the dominant member of the group.

The WWE can wink to the fans at events like the Royal Rumble when the shield and Reigns are all in the ring and team up, reigns diving to stop Seth or Ambrose being eliminated or vice versa.

2 years down the line when Ambrose and Rollins have split as a tag team and perhaps are pushing as main eventers themselves, we can have a rocky moment where one or both are challenging Reigns for the main belt and they can all say, you never beat me in the ring.

I guess what i am saying is that not all relationships have to end in a messy divorce, and are not all parties better off for it?

Well I hope you enjoyed this, I hope to have a look at some past and present relationships and how they could have and could play out.
