This will be a short post, because I'm more interested in the conversation in the comments that I hope will follow!
My name is ejruiz, and I'm a fantasy booking addict. Unlike others, I don't do it because I think I know better, but rather because I think it's part of the fun. It's also just the way I process about things. While some ask questions like "should the Undertaker's Wrestlemania Streak ever end," I wonder "can I come up with a compelling story that culminates with the end of The Streak?" [The answer so far is "no," by the way, but I digress...]. In that vein, I was recently considering who my favorite current WWE wrestler is. Notice that I used the term "wrestler," and not "superstar." I think the term superstar encompasses everything a performer does in WWE, whereas my question was about in-ring work specifically. Since I couldn't just make a list, I ask myself a question: if I could book an Iron Man match - right now - for any stakes, what would I choose?
After some debate, I settled on the following: Cesaro v. Seth Rollins for the Intercontinental Championship. I chose these two because I've let out an audible "wow" multiple times over the last few months watching them work. It's also a match-up we haven't seen much of, I think they'd have good chemistry, and I bet they'd come up with some spectacular surprises together! Cesaro could manage any offense he could imagine against the relatively slight Rollins, and he does a solid job selling so as to accentuate everything Seth does in return. They're also in great shape, and could physically handle the stipulation. Venturing into the story-telling: they've both largely been heels who've essentially forced face turns because fans can't help but root for them, and they could cement themselves in that role by having an amazing back and forth, and demonstrating respect for each other at the end of that war. Finally, I picked the Intercontinental Championship as the prize because I think it's in desperate need of elevation, and this sort of clash should finish with a belt held high, but I don't think either is up for the headlining belt just yet.
With all that said: I look forward to your proposals in the comments below! What do you think of my match-up? Who would you book in yours, and why? What other questions like this would you like to tackle in the future? Thanks!
