WrestleMania V Review: The Mega Powers EXPLODE.....And Save the Show

Event: WrestleMania V

Location: Trump Plaza, Atlantic City, New Jersey

Attendance: 18,946

Singer: Rockin' Robin (who was clearly nervous)

For the second year in a row, WrestleMania is located at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey. However, this event is NOWHERE near as good as the previous WrestleMania. A good number of the matches were just ok, with only a couple great ones.

I can't think of anything else to say, so onto the matches!

Hercules defeats King Haku (with Bobby Heenan)

First thing to note here is that Haku's theme is the same as Harley Race's and Jerry Lawler's theme...guess they had a stock King theme that eventually became synonymous with Jerry Lawler. As for the match itself, it was a very good opening match, with a lot of back and forth action.

The Twin Towers (Akeem and Big Boss Man) (with Slick) defeat The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Mary Jannetty)

There is about a combined 400 pound difference between The Rockers and The Twin Towers. As for the match sucked HARD. The Twin Towers were definitely not at the top of their game on this night.

Brutus Beefcake and Ted DiBiase (with Virgil) fight to a double count out

This was a damn good match with plenty of fun action. Virgil and DiBiase's heeling was so fun to watch, and shows why DiBiase is one of the best heels ever.

The Bushwhackers (Luke Williams and Butch Miller) defeats The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques and Raymond) (with Jimmy Hart)

The pre-match interview conducted by Lord Alfred Hayes was damn funny. Other than that, the match was very mehh.

Mr. Perfect defeats The Blue Blazer

This was an awesome match that got far too little time. Great back and forth action between both wrestlers. Unfortunately, it seemed that the crowd wasn't really into the match.

Demolition (Ax and Smash) defeat The Powers of Pain (The Warlord and The Barbarian) and Mr. Fuji

Again, mehh

Dino Bravo (with Frenchy Martin) defeats Ronnie Garvin

Jimmy Snuka makes a quick appearance. Other than that, this was yet another mehh match. This was the point in the show where I started to get really bored. The only thing that saved this was the Garvin Stomp.

The Brain Busters (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard) (with Bobby Heenan) defeat Strike Force (Rick Martel and Tito Santana)

Finally, we get a good match to revitalize the card. Martel turns heel during this match as well. Also...DAT SPINEBUSTER AND PILEDRIVER!!!

Jake Roberts defeats Andre the Giant (with Bobby Heenan) by DQ

Sigh...ANOTHER mehh match, other than the reaction from Andre after Damien made an appearance.

The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeat The Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine (with Jimmy Hart)

Another good tag match, with lots of back and forth action.

Rick Rude (with Bobby Heenan) defeats Ultimate Warrior

Damn, and I thought that Bootista gassed quickly! Other than that, another mehh match with an iconic bullshit ending.

Jim Duggan and Bad News Brown fight to a double DQ

HOSS FIGHT! And a fun one at that.

The Red Rooster defeats Bobby Heenan (with the Brooklyn Brawler)

This was a short and pointless match full of fuckery.

Hulk Hogan defeats Randy Savage

HOLY FUCK this was an amazing match, and definitely match of the night. Everything in this match was perfect, from the action to Savage's heeling (some of the best ever). Hell, even the commentary (which I will go into more detail during the next WM review). In addition, it is hyped with one of the best promos ever cut. This is one of those matches where I don't want to spoil any more of it. You just have to watch it yourself.

To conclude, this wasn't the best WrestleMania. Although there were a few great matches, it took Hogan v. Savage to save the show from sub-mediocrity. As a result, I give this show a C+.

Stay tuned for WrestleMania VI tomorrow!
