The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the one and only WrestleMania 30 event set to take place on Sun., April 6, 2014, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, the company's annual "Showcase of the Immortals". It's the biggest show of the year.
And it will be the first PPV broadcast live on the WWE Network. Here's to hoping it goes off without a hitch.
We're now five weeks out from showtime and two matches on the card are official. I should also note that Hulk Hogan has been inserted as guest host for the event.
- Randy Orton vs. Batista (WWE world heavyweight championship)
Batista won the Royal Rumble just one week after making his big return to the promotion, setting him up to challenge for the title. Orton, meanwhile, had to defeat John Cena (twice) while also winning an Elimination Chamber match to get here with the belt still around his waist. There are still rumors that another wrestler will be added to this match, but we'll see.
- Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar
There hasn't been much set up for this outside of the first segment that ran on Raw this past Monday. Lesnar had been asking for a title shot but The Authority decided not to give him one. Instead, he was offered a blank check to take on whoever he wanted at WrestleMania. He chose no one, but Undertaker showed up for some reason and they signed a contract. So here we are. Follow up coming soon.
- Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H* (Rumored)
This one is heavily rumored and very clearly the direction they're going based on TV. Bryan came right out and challenged Triple H to a match and while "The Game" blew it off at first, it seems obvious he'll accept soon enough.
- John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt* (Rumored)
The Wyatt Family has now screwed Cena out of the WWE world heavyweight title at consecutive PPV shows and beat him down on Raw this past week as part of an injury angle. Again, this hasn't been set in stone but it seems clear this is the direction.
That's the card so far, Cagesiders. You buying?
