Rumor Roundup (March 12): SummerSlam 2014 plans, Ric Flair WWE return, and More!

Could this be the summer of Cena instead of Daniel Bryan?

Today's rumors: Will John Cena or Daniel Bryan be pushed harder this summer? Who else is in for a big summer? Ric Flair likely returning to TV soon, and more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • We mentioned yesterday that this summer looks like it will be a big one for Daniel Bryan, but some backstage apparently want to take advantage of Batista's heel run to get another feud in between he and John Cena. There are fairly strong rumors that WWE officials want to push Cena and Bryan as #1 and #2 in the company, but which is likely to get that rumored match against Batista at Summerslam still seems to be on the discussion table.
  • So we know which two wrestlers are supposedly considered #1 and #2, but what about the group below them? Bray Wyatt, Big E, and Roman Reigns are the relative newcomers who have long been rumored to receive big pushes in 2014. Another interesting name being mentioned is Brock Lesnar. For the past two years, Lesnar has had matches at Extreme Rules and SummerSlam each summer, and that may again be the case this one. One interesting note is that WWE officials originally wanted another match between Lesnar and CM Punk, which may have been the original plan for him this summer. And if Vince McMahon gets his wish of a CM Punk return, they may be building Lesnar up for that match still.
  • Ready for more Ric Flair? WWE has renewed their trademark on "Ric Flair" for use on television. Last we heard, due to his health, Flair will not be permitted to engage in "anything physical." But with his buddies from Evolution all playing prominent roles in major storylines, it makes sense to use Flair in some capacity to further elevate them.
  • There is no word on if Bobby Lashley is officially signed with TNA after making a surprise appearance at last weekend's Lockdown pay per view. However, he is said to be part of TNA's creative storylines headed forward.

If you have heard of any interesting rumors that you'd like to add, feel free to post them in the comments section below. Please remember, these are merely rumors. Try not to take them too seriously, just have fun with them.
