Tag Team Championship
New Age Outlaws (c) vs. The Usos
It seems that in most forms of competition there is inevitably an epic battle pitting grizzled veterans against talented upstarts. The Usos are the hungry young team with a burning desire to capture the gold. The New Age Outlaws are the savvy old-timers with an inability to control their bodily functions. It is a classic match of old school versus new blood as The New Age Outlaws defend their tag team championships against The Usos at Elimination Chamber!
The road to Elimination Chamber
The New Age Outlaws have cemented themselves as the best tag team in the world thus far in 2014. Not only did they involve themselves in some high profile matches and segments in January featuring the likes of CM Punk, The Shield, Roddy Piper, and Jake The Snake Roberts, but they ultimately capped off their miraculous resurgence with a tag team championship victory at Royal Rumble. They are living proof that you don't need steroids to achieve the impossible in your 40's - you just need to be friends with Triple H.
This phenomenon was eerily hypothesized many years ago in Professor Steiner's 2 Laws of Inertia:
Poor Work Rate + Irrelevant For Years + Friends With Triple H = Tag Team Champions
Poor Work Rate + Irrelevant For Years + Friends With Triple H = WrestleMania 30 Headliner
Meanwhile The Usos spent years toiling away on the WWE roster without ever making a noticeable dent. Then one day they woke up and realized that the true key to winning matches in WWE is not through work rate or high flying moves - it's through face paint and war dances. That new and revolutionary wrestling technique certainly helped The Usos consistently win matches on free TV in 2013. But one thing the Usos have never been able to do is win matches on WWE pay-per-view (PPV). Just take a look at their miserable history:
Fatal 4-Way (2010) - Lost a 6-person tag (with Tamina) against The Hart Dynasty and Natalya.
Money In The Bank (2010) - Lost a tag team championship match against The Hart Dynasty.
Night of Champions (2010) - Lost a tag team turmoil championship match to Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre, though The Usos did eliminate stalwarts such as Santino/Kozlov and Henry/Bourne.
WrestleMania 27 (2011) - Lost a dark match Battle Royal that was eventually won by The Great Khali.
Royal Rumble (2012) - Jey Uso was eliminated in the Royal Rumble match while Jimmy wasn't even an entrant.
WrestleMania 28 (2012) - Lost a pre-show triple threat tag team championship match against Kidd/Gabriel and Epico/Primo.
Over The Limit (2012) - Lost a People Power Battle Royal that also included legendary warriors such as Ezekiel Jackson, Tyler Reks, Michael McGillicutty, Alex Riley, The Great Khali, Yoshi Tatsu, and David Otunga.
No Way Out (2012) - Lost a 4-way tag team match.
Money In The Bank (2013) - Lost a pre-show tag team championship match against The Shield.
Night of Champions (2013) - Lost a pre-show tag team turmoil match that included resilient foes such as 3MB and Tons of Funk.
Hell in a Cell (2013) - Lost a triple threat match for the tag team championships against Rhodes Brothers and The Shield.
Survivor Series (2013) - Lost a traditional 10-man survivor series tag team match. Jey Uso did at least manage to eliminate Jack Swagger.
Royal Rumble (2014) - Both Usos were eliminated during the Royal Rumble match.
So there is the full list. There are over a dozen matches on that list and The Usos came up as losers in every single one of them, including 5 losses when the tag team championships were on the line. This team just doesn't know how to win when it counts.
But that won't stop them from trying one more time.
What's at stake?
The tag team championships are on the line once again as The Usos will try to use their unstable powers of face paint and war dances to overcome Road Dogg's vicious mic skills and Billy Gunn's aggressively receding hair line.
Will The Usos be able to reverse their losing history on PPV? Or will The New Age Outlaws wipe out yet another adversary on their path to becoming the greatest tag team of 2014?
