Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- With it sounding more and more as though CM Punk will not be returning to WWE anytime soon, there are reports that Vince McMahon is especially uneasy about the WrestleMania XXX card. We mentioned before that WWE officials felt as though their carefully crafted WrestleMania plans had gone "off the rails" with Batista's return falling flat, CM Punk walking out, and Daniel Bryan getting a far stronger fan reaction than anticipated. So what is their solution? Well, more part timers of course. It is said that it was already in the plans for Rob Van Dam to return in time for a match at WrestleMania, and now McMahon wants Chris Jericho back as well. The idea currently on the table is for RVD and Jericho to feud with each other as they build towards a WrestleMania match.
- It is now official: Titus O'Neil and Darren Young, formerly the Prime Time Players, will face each other in a match at Elimination Chamber this coming Sunday. While a tag team breaking up isn't anything new, this one has an interesting twist. It is being said that Titus O'Neil petitioned Vince McMahon like crazy for this opportunity, and has been doing so for some time. He wanted a singles run and, finally, McMahon relented. The creative team was told to give O'Neil a singles run "sink or swim." Presumably, O'Neil will be on a short leash and, if the run doesn't succeed, he'll be back to the bottom of the card. But for the time being, WWE officials are backing his effort.
- Following his excellent match with John Cena on Monday night's Raw, Cesaro reportedly received a "standing ovation" from the guys in the locker room. It is being said that just about everyone has only good things to say about Cesaro at this point.
- In WWE Network news, there has been some confusion over whether every Raw, SmackDown, and Nitro will actually be available on the Network or not. WWE's official statements about the Network have been vague on this front, mostly pointing out that every WWE, WCW, and ECW pay-per-view will be available with little mention of the television shows. Perhaps clearing up some of the confusion is news that members of the team tasked with getting the Network up and running are apparently in the middle of going back through every old show "tagging" them with the names of any wrestlers, groups, etc. who appear so that they can be searched easily once the Network is online. There is still some confusion as to whether or not these episodes will be available the day of launch or if this will be a feature that comes later, as WWE officials are concerned about initial bandwidth and server load if they offer too much too quickly. We likely won't know for sure until the Network is launched, but it does sound as though we will have access to all of the old television programs soon.
