When WWE announced Batista would be entering the Royal Rumble match, scheduled for the pay-per-view (PPV) of the same name on Sun., Jan. 26, 2014, at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, it seemed to take some wind out of the sails for his big return to Monday Night Raw on the go home show just six days before the big event.
Then again, they're already getting some mileage out of it.
That's because Alberto Del Rio used the announcement to create a narrative for himself in the midst of the creative black hole that sucked him in after he lost the world heavyweight championship to John Cena back at Hell in a Cell. In short, he's pissed that all anyone is talking about is the big return of Batista and how he's going to win the Rumble when Del Rio is the only man who can lay claim to winning the biggest Rumble match in history, the 40-man battle royal that went down back in 2011.
It's a legitimate story, even if it's one that probably won't end well, at least not for Del Rio.
