How good is Ryback?
Good enough to have most fans convinced that he's really THE BIG GUY, a lumbering meathead who talks like an E. E. Cummings poem. In reality, he's embraced his gimmick and delivered it with a fair amount of conviction.
Look no further than his NXT profile as Skip Sheffield, where he talks a mile-a-minute with a good-old-boy accent that has him sounding like the older brother of Enos from Hazzard County.
"I'm a runner and gunner. A shaker and baker. Mover and groover. Muscle with hustle."
See for yourself.
Does this sound like Ryback? Heeeeeeeck no!
But that's a good thing, because it shows Reeves' range as a performer. There isn't much flexibility with his physique (no pun intended), so it takes a little extra oomph when it comes to creating a new character, complete with its own set of unique mannerisms.
When you're built like Ryback, it's only a matter of time before Vince McMahon uses you as a monster, which explains why this corn-fed meathead went from trunks to a singlet, trading in his cowboy hat for a pair of Indy jobbers.
The good news is, some of that old NXT charm is seeping through on Twitter.
