Welcome back to the Locker Room CSS! It's a new year and I'm excited about the new twists and turns we'll see regarding all the superstars throughout 2014. In this edition of the Locker Room I'll be taking a look at people who could have been famous superstars in wrestling but were famous for other reasons. What famous people could have had a career as a wrestler?
A lot of people love wrestling and a lot of people want to be wrestlers. Usually the people who want to become wrestlers have an amateur background in wrestling, are body builders, competed in other sports, or just love the sport so much that they try their hand at becoming a superstar. Yet, what about the people that have been offered deals to become a wrestler just because they had a certain "look", or because they were already famous for something else? People like Mr. T, Andy Kaufman, Brock Lesnar or Tiny "Zeus" Lester? They weren't really interested in becoming a wrestler(except for Kaufman), they were just at the right place at the right time and got offered a deal. What other people who were never wrestlers but famous for other reasons, could have had a career as a wrestler? I'll name three examples and hopefully that jump starts what I believe to be a very interesting topic of discussion.
1. Carl Weathers: Not only did Carl Weathers have a great physique/look, but he was already an established actor and was acquainted with Jesse Ventura, having acted alongside him in Predator. Plus he was highly recognizable as Apollo Creed. I think he would have made a great addition the the roster in the late 80's or early 90's.
2. Dolph Lundgren: I know what you're thinking, "Did you just recently watch Rocky 4 man"? Yes I realize that he played Ivan Drago in that movie, but damn he would have been a hell of a heel for Hogan to take on after defeating Andre. He was tall as hell, strong as hell, muscular as hell, and an actor and martial artist to boot. I think he would have been a perfect fit as a wrestler.
3. Jim Carrey: Yes I know he portrayed Andy Kaufman in the movie "Man on the Moon", and did a hell of a job at it too. Yet just like Andy Kaufman, Jim Carrey could have been a perfect heel and heat magnet in any promotion. His acting ability, facial expressions and mannerisms would have been put to good use in wrestling and I think he actually could have had a great comedic run.
Well those are my picks Cagesiders, let me know who you think could have made it in the wrestling world but were famous for something else!
See you next time in....... The Locker Room
