The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Royal Rumble event set to take place on Sun., Jan. 26, 2013, at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the company's annual beginning of the year showcase that will crown the next number one contender to the WWE world heavyweight championship.
We're now just two weeks out from showtime and three matches on the card are official.
- Royal Rumble
Surprisingly enough, there are only two participants official for this match: Batista, who will return to WWE on the Jan. 20 episode of Monday Night Raw, and Alberto Del Rio, who has been doing his best to start a feud with Batista. There are expected to be plenty of surprise returns mixed with jobbers mixed with legitimate threats to win the match.
- Randy Orton vs. John Cena
This is a rematch from their showdown at TLC. When announcing the bout, Stephanie McMahon remarked it would be "one fall to a finish" and that it must end "by pinfall or submission". We all remember what happened the last time The Authority promised no interference in the main event WWE world heavyweight championship match, but whatever, it's what we've got. Rumors persist that Orton will retain but you know how often plans change.
- Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show
Although he laid out Mark Henry in consecutive weeks, even kayfabe breaking his arm, Lesnar was officially booked to take on Big Show on the SmackDown episode that aired this past Friday night on SyFy. The central issue between the two? Well, Show just doesn't like Lesnar, never has and never will. So why not pick a fight with him? It is the point of all this, after all. So, HOSS FIGHT.
If you can believe it, there aren't really any substantial rumors as of now for the rest of the card. Expect the usual fluff, though.
That's it so far, Cagesiders. You buying?
