The WWE SummerSlam event taking place tonight (Sun., Aug. 18, 2013) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, kicked off with a free pre-show United States championship match pitting reigning titleholder Dean Ambrose taking on Rob Van Dam.
And, as expected, the finish was dirty.
That's because Van Dam was just about to win the match with the Five Star Frog Splash, and in turn win the title, when Ambrose's stablemates in The Shield, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, interrupted. Mark Henry and Big Show came out to even the odds, of course, but that could only last for so long.
Ultimately, just as RVD was about to cover Ambrose after hitting his Frog Splash, Reigns climbed in the ring and nailed Van Dam with a Spear, causing a disqualification.
The mountainous Show and Henry tried to come in and make the save, but the result was already set in stone. Too big, too late.
