WWE is just days away from invading the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, with its SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) extravaganza. The show, the third biggest event of the year, will feature John Cena defending the WWE championship in the main event against Daniel Bryan with Triple H serving as guest referee.
And Randy Orton looming large with his Money in the Bank contract guaranteeing him a shot at the belt whenever he wants it.
He's been teasing heavily that this is when he'll decide to strike. That could mean he won't, based on how WWE likes to book things, but it could mean he will, what with the company deciding to forgo swerves for the sake of swerves in favor of sticking with initial plans.
There's also Cena's pending elbow surgery to consider. Apparently, the champ (for now) is heading for the operating table sooner rather than later and that, obviously, means the powers that be have to figure out the right time to get the belt off him. Furthermore, rumors of future creative plans have Bryan and Orton resuming their feud from a few weeks ago at Night of Champions, the next PPV on the schedule.
Only this time they'll be battling it out over the WWE title.
The question is whether or not WWE will decide to do its best to swerve the fans here, which would likely mean keeping the strap on Cena until perhaps Raw the next night. Really, there are any number of scenarios, including a Triple H heel turn, that could result in any of the three walking out of SummerSlam with the WWE championship.
