Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- Last week, we mentioned that John Cena is dealing with swelling in his elbow and that his match with Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam is not in any danger. After that match, however...is anyone's guess at the moment. The elbow is said to be in worse shape than WWE or Cena himself is letting on. He was pulled from a house show in Oakland, CA, this past weekend and every non-SummerSlam appearance for Cena in the next few weeks is in jeopardy.
- CM Punk had a Q&A session at the Wizard World Comic Con and, as usual, had quite a few interesting things to say. He praised Daniel Bryan's recent success (referring to him as "Dragon,") and recalled the moment after Bryan won the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time while Punk was WWE champ, and the two took a picture holding their titles. He also stated that Ring of Honor circa 2004-2005 was his favorite place to wrestle and that if he could have a match against anyone right now, it would be Samoa Joe. He also mentioned having "raised voice" conversations with "certain people" in the company over getting to main event (the actual last match) WrestleMania, something he says he no longer cares about after "proving it to the one person who mattered" at WrestleMania 29. It's an interesting read, and I highly recommend Googling it.
- Confirmation has indeed been made for yesterday's rumor regarding Maria Menounos training in the ring for a match at SummerSlam. The match is said to be a "lock," with Maria likely teaming up with Natalya against the Bellas, with additional Divas also possibly getting involved. (Editor's Note: Raw events threw a crinkle in this plan, though it's still entirely possible something is announced later and Menounos is added to the show.)
- Ring of Honor wrestler BJ Whitmer underwent an MRI on the back injury he suffered at last month's show after a pile driver on the ring apron. It is believed that he has suffered a herniated disc, an injury that may require surgery and knock him out of action for up to a year.
