What to expect at the 2013 edition of SummerSlam?

After a very surprising Money in the Bank PPV, the WWE turns its attention to SummerSlam, which takes on Sunday, August 18th, 2013 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

And so, here's what to expect:

The return of the part-timers

With SummerSlam being one of the "Big 4" PPVs, expect the return of very marketable part-timers to make their long-awaited return to the WWE ring. According to various reports, CM Punk is expected to face Brock Lesnar which became evident when Paul Heyman turned on Punk which resulted in Punk losing the WWE Championship MITB Ladder Match at the Money in the Bank PPV.

Another rumored returnee is the Undertaker, but according to reports, he may not be available due to an injury.

Rumored other feuds

John Cena successfully retained the WWE Championship against Mark Henry while Alberto Del Rio retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Dolph Ziggler via DQ. And so, who will likely face these men for the titles at SummerSlam?

One possibility for Cena is the Big Show, who is recovering from an injury. Another possible opponent is Daniel Bryan, but it looks like he may be feuding with Curtis Axel for the Intercontinental Championship.

Which leaves Randy Orton, the winner of the WWE Championship MITB Ladder Match. They could have Orton cash in his briefcase on RAW tonight in Brooklyn, which will result in a very exciting match between Cena and Orton at SummerSlam.

As for possible opponents for the World Heavyweight Championship for Del Rio, expect Sheamus to be the likely opponent due to Triple H being a huge fan of him.

Another potential feud is Cody Rhodes versus Damien Sandow. It was Sandow who won the World Heavyweight Championship MITB Ladder Match against Rhodes and several other Superstars. Could there be friction between Team Rhodes Scholars heading into SummerSlam?

Several Superstars will be lost in the shuffle

With the focus of SummerSlam being on the top names, expect the likes of The Miz, Christian, Wade Barrett, Antonio Cesaro, Jack Swagger, and most of the Divas to take a back seat for the time being even though The Shield looked to continue their feud against the Usos as well as the possibility of Layla being A.J. Lee's opponent for the Divas Championship, but Lee will likely be involved in the Ziggler versus Big E Langston feud.
