Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- To further complicate matters surrounding CM Punk's potential return, it is rumored that Punk and WWE have had next to no contact since Punk walked out of the ring several weeks ago. There is no timetable for his return, no return storyline in place...nothing.
- Though it may feel like Brock Lesnar has been around a lot more frequently than last year, don't expect it to last. It is believed that the two-year contract he signed has similar "limited dates" to last year's dates. It is believed he'll work each WrestleMania as well as about two other pay-per-views (PPVs) during the year. As we've mentioned before, his upcoming match with Triple H at Extreme Rules was originally set to happen at June's inaugural Payback PPV, where it would have made sense with the PPV name, as well as to have spaced Lesnar's appearances out a bit more.
- The family of the late Paul Bearer has reached a deal with WWE for his induction in the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame class, essentially making this official. It is believed that Undertaker, who normally does not attend the ceremony in order to maintain the mystique around his character, will be the likely inductor.
- In something that would normally go straight into my "crank file", but is popular enough to be worth a mention (and because I like to get to at least four items in this post every day), WWE reportedly has interest in free-agent QB Tim Tebow, formerly of the Jets and Broncos. It would be an incredible long shot for him to ever outright wrestle in a match, but WWE isn't above using celebrities as guest referees, social media ambassadors, "hosts" for pay-per-views, etc. And with Tebow's cult-like fan following, WWE would certainly get a temporary mainstream popularity boost.
