Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- Though Paul Heyman is currently busy managing his newest "guy," Curtis Axel, rumors continue to run rampant that his other two clients, CM Punk and Brock Lesnar, are on a collision course. Punk vs. Lesnar was one of the feuds WWE was hoping for when they re-signed Lesnar, and it looks like they might be getting their wish. The most likely scenario would be Punk turning face after being dropped by Paul Heyman, leading into the feud with heel Lesnar. There is apparently no set plan for Lesnar's next feud now that, by all reports, his feud with Triple H is over, but he is expected to next work a match in August at SummerSlam. Depending on when Punk returns from his hiatus, that event is likely the earliest a match between the two could take place. It is unlikely, however, that the two would meet at WrestleMania 30 where WWE is still holding out hope for a Lesnar/Rock match. (Or, failing that, Lesnar/Undertaker.)
- With the tag team titles now around the waists of the Shield's Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, it is expected that Team Hell No is headed for a breakup. They will likely stick around long enough to get an official rematch for the titles, probably at June's Payback pay-per-view, but the team is not expected to last beyond that.
- After a disappointing WWE main roster run, Mason Ryan has apparently been making the most of his opportunity in NXT. By all accounts, he has improved by leaps and bounds, drawing high praise from all who have seen him in action, including Jim Ross. There is a real expectation of Ryan making his way back to the main roster within the next couple of months.
- In some Indy news, Sami Callihan has reportedly wrestled his last match with Dragon Gate USA. While he is still under contract with the company, Callihan has drawn serious interest from WWE and will be released if/when he signs a deal with them.
