TNA X-Division Championship: Kenny King (c) vs. Christian York vs. Zema Ion
Kenny King defends his newly won TNA X-Division Championship in a triple-threat match against Christian York and Zema Ion.
The Road to Lockdown
King just recently captured the X-Division crown that he has sought since joining TNA in the summer of 2012. His victory over Rob Van Dam on the February 28th episode of TNA Impact was his third attempt this year at defeating the champ. Had he lost he would have been removed from the X Division.
Ion was the king of the division before losing to RVD at Bound for Glory last fall. He and the pretty boy pitbull have circled the belt and each other since the current champ joined the company. This will be their latest tilt in a long series of tournament and tag team matches, as well as contests to determine the number one contender and champion. As recently as February 7, these two were competing in a three-way dance with Van Dam as challengers.
York is the newcomer to this party, but he has history with both men and has been chasing the title for himself since winning a contract via Gut Check in November of last year. His Gut Check match was against Ion, and he defeated King at Genesis to earn a shot at the belt - a chance that passed him by when he was defeated by RVD later that night.
What's at Stake?
One of these rivals will leave Lockdown as the X-Division champion. As the summer and Destination X approaches, that could mean a shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
Can the champ keep his freshly-earned title? A triple-threat always provides plenty of opportunities for challengers to swoop up a victory. And all three of these men are skilled at the fast-paced, high-flying wrestling the division is known for.
