Rumor Roundup for Thursday, March 7

No more physicality for the Nature Boy? - WikiMedia Commons

Ric Flair health update, Paul Heyman note, who almost got to take on "the Streak?" And more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we will be taking a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • WWE apparently has some major concerns with the health of Ric Flair, to the point where he isn't going to be allowed to do anything particularly physical in any future appearances. Flair has long been suffering from alcoholic cardiomyopathy, a weakening of the heart muscles due to the long term effects of alcohol abuse. Flair was also pulled from a match in Japan earlier this year due to an undisclosed medical condition, now believed to be septic bursitis in his knee. (A infection of the soft tissue in the knee.)
  • It is expected that Paul Heyman will be working with both Brock Lesnar and CM Punk for their matches at WrestleMania 29. Since Lesnar's return several weeks ago, Heyman has only been appearing with Punk during weeks that Lesnar is not scheduled to appear.
  • It is believed that if, for whatever reason, Undertaker were returning and CM Punk were unavailable (knee/neck injury) as an opponent, WWE would have gone with Sheamus as this year's "Streak" challenger. Bullet dodged or something you might actually have wanted to see?
  • Not so much of a rumor, but just an interesting thing Rob Van Dam said in a recent interview with shiningwizards.com that gives a little insight into the way Vince McMahon's mind works. After a match with Kurt Angle in which Van Dam split Angle's lip open on a leg drop, Van Dam passed Vince backstage and apologized to Vince for hurting Angle. Vince's reply? "Well next time he will learn to turn his head." You can listen to the interview here.
