How will Rock/Cena II play out? - WikiMedia Commons

"WrestleMania 29" main event booking speculation, Hall of Fame talk, and more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we will be taking a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.

Best Way to End the John Cena/Rock Match at Wrestlemania 29?

It has essentially been known for months the John Cena would be taking on the Rock in a rematch of their WrestleMania 28 affair at this year's WrestleMania 29. Cena earned the rematch after winning January's Royal Rumble match and preserved the opportunity by defeating CM Punk on last week's (Feb. 25) edition of Raw.

It has long been believed that Cena will be winning the rematch with the Rock and earning his record 11th WWE Championship in the process.

However, if recent rumors are to be believed, WWE is concerned with the crowd reaction for the finish of that match. They are anticipating a strong negative reaction from the New York/New Jersey area crowd, and are currently working through booking ideas for the match to compensate.

One cause of concern is that the last pay-per-view (PPV) event to take place in the New York area (December's Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (TLC) from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn) featured Cena taking on Dolph Ziggler for Ziggler's Money in the Bank briefcase in the main event ladder match. The crowd reaction was split more in favor of Ziggler than perhaps WWE expected.

Mixed crowd reaction for John Cena is nothing new, but with WWE trying to make WrestleMania 29 the biggest show in wrestling history (at least until the next WrestleMania,) it would not be ideal for them to end the event with a raucous crowd booing the newly crowned champion.

Exactly how this may impact the match is not yet known, but keep an eye out for WWE doing whatever it takes to get a favorable crowd reaction from the WrestleMania 29 main event.

Other Rumors for the Day:

  • It has not yet been determined who will be inducting Bruno Sammartino into the WWE Hall of Fame. From the sounds of things, if Triple H has his way, the person doing the honors will be none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger has previously guest starred in WWE in a variety of roles, including most recently as a social media ambassador.
  • Ivan Koloff is also campaigning for the honor as well. Koloff is the guy who ended Sammartino's record 2803 day reign with the WWE (then WWWF) title.
  • According to recent house show reports, Dolph Ziggler has been teaming with Big E Langston to take on Team Hell No for the tag team titles. It may mean nothing, but WWE is known to try new things at house shows before implementing them in televised matches. With Hell No dissolving and Ziggler badly in need of a new direction until his Money in the Bank cash in, this could be something to keep an eye on.
