Week in Wrestling: Mar. 10 to Mar. 16 - WWE's Paul Bearer tribute, Aces & 8s kick ass in TNA

Kane - defended his late Dad's honour on Monday Night Raw last week - Gallo Images

Catch up on all the results from WWE and TNA television shows with the eleventh Cageside Seats Week in Wrestling of 2013! This was the week that Paul Bearer's death was used in WWE storylines and Aces & 8s kicked everyone's asses (other than Hulk Hogan's, of course) in TNA.

Hello, Cagesiders! Welcome to the eleventh Cageside Seats Week in Wrestling of 2013!

What happened last week? Find out below, Cagesiders.

Raw (Mar. 11th)

  • The show started off by airing a wonderful tribute video for the recently deceased Paul Bearer. The Undertaker then posed with Bearer's urn while an In Memoriam graphic was shown on the Titantron. Of course, this touching display of emotion was interrupted by callous heel CM Punk, who wanted to extend his condolences for The Undertaker's upcoming loss at Wrestlemania and rub it in that only Bearer would remember him with the perfect streak.
  • During the commercial break Kane went after CM Punk, but The Best in the World managed to scarper away into hiding. On our return, we see Kane destroying the locker room in his attempt to find him.
  • Big Show defeated Seth Rollins by disqualification when Dean Ambrose interfered. Eventually the numbers became too much for Show and he became the latest man to fall victim to The Shield's three man powerbomb.
  • CM Punk then confronted Vickie Guerrero about Kane's attempted ambush, which led to Vickie booking Punk vs. Kane in a No DQ match for the night's main event.
  • Dolph Ziggler pinned Daniel Bryan with the Zig Zag. After the match, AJ Lee and Dolph made out in front of her ex, before Big E Langston added injury to insult by hitting his Big Ending finisher on Bryan.
  • Fandango was scheduled to face Tensai, but refused to compete once again because Sweet T couldn't pronounce his name correctly and the fat man's dancing was offensive too.
  • Team Rhodes Scholars vs. The New Age Outlaws quickly ended in a no-contest when Brock Lesnar's music hit and he F-5'd both Billy Gunn and Road Dogg. Paul Heyman then announced that Brock Lesnar would happily accept Triple H's challenge to a match at WrestleMania 29 if he could pick the stipulation to it.
  • Mark Henry pinned Kofi Kingston with the World's Strongest Slam.
  • Damien Sandow rudely interrupted Cody Rhodes hitting on Kaitlyn in a moustache oriented way and introduced a couple of more fitting companions for them both: the returning Bella Twins. Cody momentarily pined for Kaitlyn when she stormed off in a huff, but soon forgot about her. Vickie Guerrero then barged in to book the Rhodes Scholars in a tag match with Sheamus and Randy Orton for later, as their earlier match never got off the ground.
  • Ryback pinned Heath Slater with the Shellshock. After the match, Drew McIntyre ate a Shellshock too when he foolishly tried to ambush Ryback. Mark Henry then came down and the two rivals kept planting their powerful finishers on McIntyre in a game of oneupmanship, until they'd had enough and started staring each other down instead.
  • Alberto Del Rio submitted Antonio Cesaro with an armbar.
  • Josh Matthews attempted to interview Kane, but he just clutched the urn in his arms and walked away.
  • A promo video aired for John Cena vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 29 where Cena's high profile divorce was blamed on last year's loss to Rock. But Cena kissing Eve Torres onscreen had nothing to do with it.
  • Sheamus & Randy Orton defeated Team Rhodes Scholars when Sheamus pinned Damien Sandow with the Brogue Kick.
  • During the ad break, The Shield laid out Sheamus & Orton as they were returning to the back.
  • Next came a train wreck of a Highlight Reel segment featuring host Chris Jericho, The Miz, Wade Barrett and Brad Maddox, which was a badly executed excuse to shill The Marine 3 and Dead Man Down. This meandered on until Maddox booked an immediate match between Jericho and Miz with the winner facing Barrett for the WWE Intercontinental Championship next week.
  • Chris Jericho vs. The Miz ended in a no-contest when Wade Barrett attacked both men, so next week it'll be a three-way IC title match.
  • Jack Swagger submitted Sin Cara with the Patriot Lock. Swagger wouldn't release the hold until Alberto Del Rio made the save and put him in an armbar. Zeb Colter managed to drag Swagger out of the ring before too much damage was done.
  • In another segment designed to promote a WWE film, this time The Call, Halle Berry received a phone call from a distressed David Otunga warning her that someone threatened him with violence for her cell phone number. The deranged stalker turned out to be Kane, who was upset that Halle never replied to any of his regular fan mail.
  • Kane pinned CM Punk in a No Disqualification match with the chokeslam when The Undertaker's gong distracted Punk. The Brother's Of Destruction then posed in Paul Bearer's memory from opposite ends of the arena until Punk snatched the urn and bashed Kane with it in the back of the head a few times before The Undertaker could come down to protect his brother. The show closed with the memorable image of Punk bailing with the urn and mocking The Undertaker's earlier pose with it, while The Deadman responded with a throat slash gesture.

NXT (Mar. 13th)

  • Kassius Ohno pinned Derrick Bateman with a stiff kick to the face. After the match, Ohno locked in the STF, until NXT announcer William Regal dragged him off Bateman and checked on his fallen comrade. When Ohno tried to take advantage of the distraction, Regal surprised him with a sucker punch. The two then glared at each other in shock.
  • Bo Dallas vowed that he would get revenge on Bray Wyatt.
  • Summer Rae pinned Emma with a spinning roundhouse kick. Paige returned after the match to chase Summer out of the ring and declare that she's back and the "summer session is over".
  • Adrian Neville claimed that his tag team partner Oliver Gray will be fine, but the Wyatt Family won't be so lucky. He asked NXT Commissioner Dusty Rhodes for a match against Luke Harper and Erick Rowan next week, and was willing to take anyone as his partner to get it.
  • Big E Langston promised that his victory over Conor O'Brian would be delicious.
  • A pissed off Bo Dallas pinned Bray Wyatt with a belly-to-belly suplex. As Wyatt smiled, his henchmen Harper and Rowan attacked Dallas, who powered the gruesome twosome off him, only to fall victim to Wyatt's Long Kiss Goodnight finisher.
  • Justin Gabriel talked about how he used to read in the papers about Leo Kruger's history in South African militias and how that had messed with his head.
  • Alberto Del Rio cut a promo praising the young NXT locker room. Antonio Cesaro then came out to challenge the World Heavyweight Champion to a match to determine the best titleholder in WWE today. However, Dusty Rhodes was upset at Cesaro throwing his weight around on his turf and booked him in a match with the NXT Champion Big E Langston instead.
  • Antonio Cesaro vs. Big E Langston ended in a no-contest when Corey Graves interfered. Conor O'Brian eventually came down and helped Graves to stomp a mudhole into Langston and walk it dry.

Main Event (Mar. 13th)

  • Alberto Del Rio started the show with his "Made In America" schtick to counter Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter's anti-immigration rhetoric. But, then it was onto the business of facing a really big opponent...
  • The Big Show defeated Alberto Del Rio by count-out when Jack Swagger chopped Del Rio's knees out from underneath him.
  • The Usos defeated the 3MB team of Heath Slater & Drew McIntyre when the soon to be drunk driver (Jimmy) pinned Slater with the Superfly Splash. There goes their mini push again!
  • Wade Barrett pinned Justin Gabriel with the Bull Hammer.

Superstars (Mar. 14th)

  • R-Truth pinned Michael McGillicutty with his Lie Detector finisher.
  • Zack Ryder pinned JTG with the Rough Ryder.

Smackdown (Mar. 15th)

  • Randy Orton & Sheamus defeated Team Rhodes Scholars again when Orton pinned Cody Rhodes with the RKO. After the match, The Shield challenged Orton, Sheamus, and a third partner of their choosing to a match at WrestleMania 29. The babyface duo immediately agreed.
  • The Big Show wanted to be Randy Orton and Sheamus' partner in that match, but they had already picked Ryback.
  • Kaitlyn & Layla defeated Tamina & Aksana when Layla pinned Aksana with her Lots of Love finisher. Layla stole an easy pinfall victory as she blind tagged herself in after a Spear by Kaitlyn.
  • The Bella Twins had a cat-fight with The Funkadactyls, Naomi and Cameron, backstage.
  • Dolph Ziggler pinned Kane with the Zig Zag when Kane was distracted by Daniel Bryan brawling with Big E Langston outside the ring. Afterwards, Langston laid out Kane with his finisher when The Big Red Monster went to chokeslam Ziggler.
  • Another Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez spoof propaganda video aired about Canadians illegally sneaking into the country with maple syrup.
  • We return to find Chris Jericho backstage chuckling at the parody, which pissed off Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter, as fighting for the soul of America is not a laughing matter.
  • Fandango disapproved of The Great Khali's and Natalya's dancing. Once again he refused to wrestle when Khali couldn't say his name properly.
  • The Shield destroyed Randy Orton and Sheamus backstage. After the break, we saw Smackdown GM Booker T explaining to Ryback what had just happened.
  • Mark Henry vs. Ryback immediately went to a no-contest when The Shield attacked Ryback. Eventually, the numbers were too much for Ryback and he got planted with the triple team powerbomb. Henry followed up with not one, not two, but three World's Strongest Slams on his fallen opponent.
  • Jack Swagger pinned Chris Jericho clean with the gutwrench powerbomb.

Saturday Morning Slam (Mar. 16th)

  • Smackdown GM Booker T introduced Mick Foley as the new General Manager of Saturday Morning Slam. Foley promised that the show would be more fun, exciting, and unpredictable than ever under his watch. Daniel Bryan was pissed that Foley was chosen ahead of him, but the Hardcore Legend placated the angry Mr. Goat Face with the offer of being his assistant. Before he could accept, Dolph Ziggler interrupted, claiming that the only thing worse than Foley being the GM would be if Bryan was his assistant. You don't have to be a genius to guess the first match that Foley booked as SMS GM.
  • Daniel Bryan pinned Dolph Ziggler with a hurricanrana.
  • Mick Foley thought that Tensai and Brodus Clay's dancing could do with some work, and did a Dude Love demonstration. Rose Mendes yelled at Foley in Spanish, which allowed Foley to translate. Apparently she either said that she admired the moves of the three dancing bears, she couldn’t bear to watch it, or that they could barely dance.
  • Brodus Clay & Tensai w/ The Funkadactyls defeated Primo & Epico w/ Rosa Mendes when Clay pinned Primo after a double big splash.

Impact Wrestling (Mar. 15th)

  • The show started with Aces & 8s beating down Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez. We then had the official unveiling of Bully Ray as the President of Aces & 8s, complete with the gift of his very own leather gang jacket. Ray then did his big heel turn speech, bragging about how he used Sting, screwed Brooke, and made a fool out of Hulk Hogan. He even explained why he didn't climb out of the cage at Lockdown when his Aces & 8s comrades Garrett Bischoff and Wes Brisco attacked Jeff Hardy. Because Hogan had told him to do something memorable, so he hit Hardy with a hammer instead. The promo closed with Ray begging Hogan to fire him.
  • Backstage Sting was extremely pissed off at what Ray had to say.
  • Mickie James & Velvet Sky defeated Gail Kim & Tara when Sky pinned Tara with the In Yo Face after Kim got into another fight with referee Taryn Terrell.
  • In their secret clubhouse, Bully Ray claimed that Hulk Hogan didn't have the balls to fire them, but if he actually did, he proposed a toast to the baddest motherfu*****s on the planet, the Aces & 8s. Bully then called his wife, who unsurprisingly sent him right to voicemail.
  • Backstage someone asked Hulk Hogan about Aces & 8s and Brooke. His terse response was "Not now."
  • Rob Terry squashed Robbie E with the Freakbuster.
  • In a tease for later, Sting walked into Hulk Hogan's office.
  • Back to the clubhouse, Bully Ray was upset that the merch stand had no Aces & 8s gear. He then said that whomever's page of the program he opened up to is who they'll attack tonight.
  • Hulk Hogan was mad at Sting for making him believe that Bully Ray was a good guy against his better instincts. Sting told Hogan that he shouldn't fire Bully, but let him fight and to "do it for us", but The Hulkster was having none of it, firing back that he wanted Sting out of his office and he was making him sick.
  • Austin Aries and Bobby Roode then put the verbal boots to Sting too, blaming him for everything that had happened. Sting has had enough and was itching for a fight. Aries suggested a match with Roode, but he'd long gone, so Sting picked Mr. A Double instead.
  • The Phenomenal AJ Styles' music hit, but out came Christopher Daniels and Kazaraian in full Legion of Doom face paint (they were in Chicago, after all) to kill two birds with one stone, simultaneously mocking Styles and the local legends. James Storm confronted them over their insults, which led to...
  • James Storm pinned Christopher Daniels with a Backstabber. After the match, AJ Styles saved Storm from being double teamed by Bad Influence, only to deck him with a short arm clothesline.
  • Aces & 8s jumped Kurt Angle in the hallway.
  • Joseph Park cut a promo overjoyed at picking up a "W" on Sunday's pay-per-view. Matt Morgan interrupted, calling the walking choke Park Hulk Hogan's biggest mistake and the fact that this clown has a contract is an "abortion to the sport of professional wrestling." He wanted to eliminate all of Hogan's mistakes, starting with Park. Abyss' brother is up for a fight, but Morgan teased leaving the ring to distract Park and leave him wide open for a Carbon Footprint. Next week, they'll scrap.
  • Bully Ray proclaimed to Hulk Hogan from the comfort of his clubhouse that until he gets an answer from The Hulkster, he is going to destroy the show.
  • A taped video aired of Brooke Hogan flipping out over Bully Ray's betrayal.
  • Sting defeated Austin Aries by disqualification when Aces & 8s attacked him as he had Aries in the Scorpion Deathlock. Hulk Hogan then came out to announce that firing Bully Ray would be the coward's way out (forgetting that he already indefinitely suspended him once over less trivial matters) and he was giving every man and woman the power to fight Aces & 8s. The whole locker room came out to fight the invading gang, but got beaten down. Bully Ray told Hogan that his calvary just got killed by Aces & 8s and "What are you going to do, Dad?".
