Last week, I espoused the merits of #2 Alberto Del Rio, his remarkable season, and the legitimate possibility that he'll win the season Wrankings Championship. None of what I've said is any less true, but in researching Del Rio's success I couldn't help but take note of the recent rash of wins by his Wrestlemania 29 opponent.
Yes, Jack Swagger made his way back into the win column on the February 1st edition of Smackdown with a win over Kofi Kingston. Since that time there have been a total of 20 episodes of Wrankings-eligible WWE programming. In those 20 shows, Swagger had scored at least 2 points in 12 of them. The only other wrestler who is even close is the World Heavyweight Champion himself... Alberto Del Rio.
So while the lamestream professional wrestling media laps up the Cena/Rock, Punk/Undertaker, and Helmsley/Lesnar encounters, don't sleep on the fact that the 2 hottest wrestlers in the game today are Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger. That's going to be some kind of matchup.
